Timeless elegance with a good pinch of motorsport history
The name of Dangerholm's new study makes many bikers sit up and take notice. The Silver Arrows made motorsport history and were already a legend in the 1930s. Mercedes' successes continued in the 1950s and were further underpinned in more recent history by drivers such as Mika Häkkinen with his two Formula 1 world championship titles. Lewis Hamilton made his notable contribution to Mercedes' history with several titles in recent years. But no matter which era we look at and which driver sat in the historic cockpits: silver, black and red were usually the typical colors of the Silver Arrows.
In this project, Dangerholm takes on history and creates his own response on two wheels.
With the SCOTT Spark RC HMX, Dangerholm has chosen a base that looks exceptionally tidy thanks to the integrated shock and the elegant, clean look. And at the front - for the first time ever - a Lefty Ocho is used! This gives Dangerholm a completely unusual look on a SCOTT.
This combination is complemented by Bike Ahead Composite's Biturbo RSX wheels, which come in a striking red. Not only do they stand out visually, the technical values are also impressive: with a weight of only 1329 g despite their massive 33 mm inner rim width, they offer great traction and comfort and are also very responsive. Only selected tires are used for racing bikes - Maxxis provides the Team Spec versions of the 29x2.4” Maxxis Aspen and Aspen ST tires.
When it comes to the drivetrain, Dangerholm leaves nothing to chance and relies on SRAM XXSL AXS Transmission. The rear derailleur is fitted with an OSPW X derailleur cage from CeramicSpeed and a corresponding bottom bracket for maximum performance. Depending on the intended use, either the SRAM XXSL Powermeter or the lightweight RadoxX Components Bergakungen chainrings are used, both with 38 teeth.
For the cockpit, Dangerholm reaches into his bag of tricks and conjures up three old acquaintances: Zirbel Zshift 01 Controller (for shifting and for the dropper post), a BlipBox and the Intend Grace stem, in which everything is carefully stowed away. The innovation is called Wonderbar and comes from Bike Ahead Composites. The handlebars have special openings and cable ducts that are designed precisely for these electronic tinkerings and ensure clean installation and routing. The complete setup, including the electronics, weighs just 274 g.
Dangerholm uses Jagwire LEX-SL 3.0 for routing the suspension remote cables. The unique thin housing with a diameter of 3 mm, in contrast to normal 4 mm housings, is extremely flexible and still offers full stability.
The Syncros/Acros headset has been upgraded with CeramicSpeed SLT bearings. Contrary to what you might think, these are not ceramic, but made entirely of stainless steel and filled with a special self-lubricating plastic polymer instead of normal grease. This means that dirt or water can't get in, making them essentially maintenance-free and super durable.
Finally, let's take a look at the contact points: The grips used are the very comfortable yet lightweight Syncros Foam grips. For the saddle, Dangerholm relies on the Lupina saddle from Berk. Both contact points have a matching red color scheme. The Lupina is handmade in Slovenia, weighs only 93.6 g and the saddle shell is very flexible to provide additional comfort together with the padding.
It is mounted on a RockShox Reverb AXS dropper seatpost, which is attached with the beautiful, but unfortunately no longer available, Tune Würger Skyline seatpost clamp.
