Smooth and precise shifting has always been a Shimano trademark. This has been further perfected with the Hyperglide+ cassettes. The shape of the individual teeth is designed in such a way that hardly any noise or vibrations are noticeable when changing to a larger sprocket or downshifting. Nevertheless, the chain is held more reliably and possible slippage is effectively prevented. In addition, the time required to change gear has been significantly reduced.
Shimano uses a mix of different materials in the construction of the cassette: while the smallest sprockets with the lowest chain wrap and highest load are made of steel, the middle sprockets are made of titanium. The three largest sprockets and the spider are made of high-quality aluminum. This load-appropriate use of materials leads to even wear of the cassette and also extends the service life of the chain. In addition, significant weight can be saved.
