KMC chain gauge Easy Chain Checker
Well-maintained bicycle chains increase riding enjoyment and extend the service life of your drivetrain. With a little manual skill, you can easily do the work yourself. KMC provides specially developed tools for the precise measuring, shortening, opening and closing of bicycle chains. This means that maintenance and assembly work on the drivetrain quickly becomes routine.
With the KMC Easy Chain Checker, you can check the wear condition of your chain quickly and precisely. Regular checks help to keep the drivetrain efficient and prevent premature wear of chainrings and sprockets.
Workshop experience? Nice, but not necessary. Place the Chain Checker on the chain by placing one end of the tool on a chain pin and inserting the other end into a link hole. Allow the tool to sink into the chain. Depending on how deep the Chain Checker falls between the links, it indicates the current degree of wear of the chain.
The gauge has a fine scale with which you can reliably determine the degree of wear on your chain. The measurement markings show the increase in length of the chain in millimeter increments. If the measured value is less than 0.2 mm, the chain is in good condition and can be ridden on without hesitation. Values of 0.4 mm to 0.6 mm indicate slight wear. The chain is still functional, but should be checked regularly and replaced soon if used for sporty riding. From a value of 0.8 mm, the gauge indicates heavy, i.e. excessive wear. In this case, replacement is strongly recommended to avoid consequential damage to sprockets and chainrings.
One side of the Chain Checker is designed for standard chains, the opposite side is especially suitable for flattop chains. Depending on the chain type, the tool is simply aligned accordingly.
