SCOTT Scale RC Gravel
Dangerholm's first bike presentation in 2026 delves deeper into a trend we have been seeing more and more recently – the use of lightweight MTB frames in the gravel segment to enhance their technical capabilities and make them suitable for rougher use.
This project focuses primarily on the flexibility of a basic setup and explores the possibilities – whether in terms of lightweight construction or off-road capability.
Although Dangerholm had been using rigid MTBs for fast gravel riding for many years, until recently he was not tempted to officially install suspension forks in gravel bikes. The forks simply lacked the final bit of technology to make them ergonomically comfortable and fully switchable through all suspension modes. That has now changed with an update from RockShox: the Flight Attendant system can now also be used effectively in ‘fork only’ mode. In combination with the SRAM RED AXS shift levers, it is easy to switch between suspension modes. With the use of a power meter in the crank, the suspension can even be operated in automatic mode – and takes care of itself depending on the terrain.
Bike Presentation
With a complete bike as a basis, Dangerholm has now turned its attention to two specific areas and explored them in depth:
The first of the two alternative builds is, in typical Dangerholm fashion, once again entirely focused on weight. Despite RockShox SID and wide tyres, the bike should remain within the usual gravel frame: with pedals, the build weighs in at 7.19 kg. Especially in the area of the wheels, it is not quite as aerodynamic as a pure gravel bike, but it shines on certain terrain where it is easier to maintain high speeds.
The second setup emphasises versatility, especially in rougher terrain. With a dropper post, which is also controlled via the RED shifters, and rims with an inner width of 40 mm, the bike feels at home even in difficult terrain. The Tunder Burt can be ridden with lower tyre pressure and still retains its stability thanks to the enormous rims. At high speeds, they provide more comfort and better grip. And the dropper? It was not primarily installed for use on technical terrain, but for gravel descents, which can be quite bumpy at high speeds. In such situations, you can move the saddle out of the way and move more freely on the bike. Of course, droppers are also useful if you want to get into a more aerodynamic position and duck down low at high speeds.
