With the M7120 SLX crank, Shimano is taking a big step forward in several aspects. Probably the most striking innovation: The M7120 is designed for direct mount chainrings. Their chain line of 55 millimeters has been optimized for Boost rear triangles. Matching direct mount chainrings with 30 to 34 teeth are available.
When assembling the crank, Shimano continues to rely on the proven Hollowtech-2 technology with a 24 millimeter crankshaft. By optimizing the design of the current generation of cold-forged aluminum cranks, weight could be further saved and rigidity increased at the same time.
