SCOPE rear wheel 28" Road Race Disc
"Winners have a plan, losers an excuse" - Scope has no excuse. Their products are made for winners and are bursting with innovation and quality. The engineers and designers from the Netherlands live for their passion, cycling. They tinker, try and test with just one goal in mind - to build the best wheelsets in the world. They rely on the latest know-how, use strong partnerships and incorporate scientific findings into their development work. You can now become part of this challenge and let yourself be convinced by the outstanding wheels. The Race series is based on the Artech wheels, has their DNA and appeals particularly to the ambitious amateur rider.
If you are looking for the ultimate in speed, the Race Disc rear wheel is the wheel for you. It combines perfect aerodynamics with a very low weight and is relatively insensitive to crosswinds thanks to the special rim surface. This saves you valuable energy in the battle against the clock, which you can then put to optimum use in the finish.
Hubs
At the center of the wheel is Scope's own R-hub. Unfortunately, its simple yet elegant design is not visible on the disc wheel. The hub body is milled from high-quality aluminium and has a first-class finish. The axle runs on very high-quality SKF ball bearings, which are made of highly tempered steel and therefore have very low rolling resistance. Particular attention was paid to perfect sealing, with a labyrinth system effectively preventing the ingress of water and dirt so that full performance is maintained even under the most adverse conditions.
The rear wheel is driven by a toothed pulley freewheel with 36 ratchets. Nothing ordinary was used there either, but the Diamond Ratchet System developed in-house was installed. The titanium discs are coated with a diamond-like, resistant carbon layer, which significantly minimizes the susceptibility to wear and still enables a reduction in weight.
Rims
In addition to the hubs, the rims are another important component of a wheel. These in particular have a significant influence on weight and agility. Of course, the makers at Scope have left nothing to chance here either. Carbon was chosen as the standard material. This is light, stiff and very robust if processed correctly.
The shape of the rims is also crucial for good riding characteristics. To optimize them, the AEA "Algorithm Enhanced Aerodynamics" algorithm was further developed, which not only considers the interaction between rim and tire, but also includes the entire bike and its components in the calculation. The cross-section has been designed in such a way that braking turbulence is minimized and a high level of riding stability is ensured even in strong crosswinds.
The low weight of the rim is due not only to the use of high-quality fibers, but also to the intelligent layer structure. For example, on the inside of the rim, not the entire area has been reinforced, but only locally around the spoke holes. Although this increases the manufacturing effort, it guarantees high strength and rigidity and a lightweight rim.
It goes without saying that the wheelset is tubeless-compatible. Matching valves and rim strips are already fitted so that you can benefit from the advantages of this system immediately. In addition, the rim flange with hooks ensures a secure fit of the tires, especially when high air pressures are used with inner tubes.
Spokes
Scope has left nothing to chance with the spokes either. The tried and tested Sapim CX-Ray are used. The Belgians have succeeded in developing an exceptional spoke. In addition to its low weight, it has an exceptional load capacity and flexibility. This also results in a wide range of applications. Whether racing cyclists or mountain bikers, everyone benefits from these positive properties. For the best aerodynamics, the spokes of a disc wheel are of course fully clad, which prevents turbulence that causes braking. Carbon fibers were also used for this, so as not to negatively influence the acceleration behavior.
All these features allow Scope to release its wheels without weight restrictions. This is an absolute novelty in this weight class and testifies to the high quality of workmanship.
Warranty and crash replacement
The makers of Scope have absolute confidence in their R products and grant the first purchaser a 3-year warranty on all material and manufacturing defects. All you have to do is register on their website within 30 days of purchase and they also offer a lifetime crash replacement. You can also find the current conditions for this at www.scopecycling.com/de/crash-replacement/.
