Road cyclists and gravel riders are always looking for the best compromise between weight, aerodynamics and stiffness. The combination of Light Bicycle carbon rims and the lightweight Extralite hubs should therefore always be on the shortlist. Hubs
It has long been known that the Italians around Extralite create small CNC works of art. Their extravagant design stands out from the crowd and is an eye-catcher on any bike.
They have once again outdone themselves with the next evolutionary stage of the Cyberhubs. The one-piece hub body is CNC-milled from high-strength 7075TX aluminum at great expense. This rotates around a stable 17 mm aluminum axle with double-sealed deep groove ball bearings. The axial play can also be finely adjusted in future using the micro-tuner.
The spoke mounts have been changed slightly. These are now closer to the hub body, but still use the straight-pull version to minimize susceptibility to punctures. The holes have been enlarged and rounded to a diameter of 2.8 mm and can accommodate conventional stainless steel spokes as well as carbon or even textile fiber versions. This means you are already equipped for the future. In addition, the coordinated geometry of the hub flange ensures an optimum spoke angle and can also withstand high spoke tensions. This guarantees you a very stiff and durable wheel.
A pawl freewheel provides propulsion. Two pawls engage in a titanium ring with 32 ratchets. This reduces the free travel and also reduces wear.
Rims
With their extravagant design, the Light-Bicycle Falcon Pro Turbo rims are not just a visual highlight. With their modern rim profile, they are also state-of-the-art in technical terms and can show off their strengths on a wide range of wheel types. With an inner width of 25 millimetres and an outer width of 34.5 millimetres, they not only integrate 28 to 32 millimetre wide road bike tires perfectly into the rim profile in terms of aerodynamics, they also provide excellent support for all-road and gravel tires up to a width of 50 millimetres at low air pressures. In addition to the rim height, the tapered turbo rim profile helps to reduce drag and improve crosswind stability at the same time. The shape also improves the stiffness of the rims, which is reflected in a more direct power transmission in the assembled wheel. The tubeless inner profile with rim hooks ensures a secure tire fit on the rims.
Despite the elaborate rim design, the weight of the rims is very low thanks to a complex manufacturing process.
Thanks to this special BlackTek manufacturing process, the Falcon Pro rims come out of the autoclave as a finished product and require no post-processing. This not only makes the manufacturing process more environmentally friendly than conventional methods, the rim surface is also significantly harder and therefore more resistant to mechanical stresses during driving.
Extra-thin and lightweight carbon prepregs are used in the production of Falcon Pro rims. This makes it possible to stack more carbon layers in critical areas to achieve greater stability without weight disadvantages and to keep the overall weight of the rims extremely low.
Wheel construction at R2-Bike
Our wheels are assembled entirely by hand by our wheel builders. During the entire assembly process, great importance is attached to ensuring that not only the concentricity is correct, but also that the spoke tension is as even as possible. This special care allows us to give the first owner a lifetime guarantee against spoke breakage, as long as it was not caused by force.
