CHRIS KING hubs have a certain myth attached to them. They have been on the market almost unchanged for years and yet they are not old hat. Thanks to the proven technical inner workings, constant further development in detail and unmistakable appearance, they have developed into a true cult object.
The unmistakable sound of the freewheel is the trademark of the rear hubs. Chris King himself calls it the "Angry Bee Sound", which is generated by the 72 grid points of the stainless steel toothed pulley. Thanks to this 3-part RingDrive system, every pedal stroke is immediately converted into propulsion without much idle travel.
The large hub flange of the hubs allows shorter spokes to be used in wheel construction, which not only saves weight but also makes for a very stable and durable wheel.
At the heart of the hub are the ball bearings. These are also developed and produced directly at Chris King. This means they can be fully adapted to the specific loads and forces. Thanks to the multiple seals, the ingress of water or dirt is virtually impossible. Before installation, each bearing is checked by hand for any quality defects and sorted out if necessary. Adjusting the bearing play is very simple and can also be carried out with the bearing installed. With the help of the Chris King hub tool set, which can be purchased as an option, replacing the bearings and maintaining the hub is child's play.
These unique features are still part of the hubs in the 4th generation, but the inner workings have been fundamentally improved in terms of maintenance and servicing. Thanks to universal and versatile axle components, conversion to other hub or freehub standards has become much more cost-effective. The use of common bearing sizes guarantees better compatibility with each other. The disassembly and assembly of the hub has also been significantly simplified and preload can be set more precisely.
