The wait is finally over. Finally, Shimano's road bike groupset for the ambitious hobby cyclist comes with modern Di2 technology and 12-speed drive. And all this at an unbelievably low price-performance ratio. Nevertheless, no compromises were made in terms of durability and functionality and the many years of experience of the Japanese can be seen in every detail.
Technically, the new 105 group is similar to its big sisters Dura-Ace and Ultegra. The shift commands are transmitted wirelessly to the derailleur and rear derailleur. The latter are connected to a central battery, which can, for example, be installed well hidden in the seat post. The 12-speed drive was also adopted and allows for a larger gear ratio. This makes long climbs very pleasant, even for less trained drivers.
Gear changes have never been so quick. A push of a button and the chain changes from one sprocket to the other in fractions of a second, no matter what the situation. This is carried out by the powerful and reliable integrated motor. The system is also supplied with new energy via the rear derailleur. The optionally available charging cable is plugged into the small charging port and after approx. 1.5 hours you can swing back into the saddle. A small LED reliably shows the capacity that is still available. With the help of the Shimano E-Tube app, the rear derailleur is fine-tuned after installation and a manual, fully or semi-synchronous shift mode is selected depending on preference. The narrow Shadow profile reduces the risk of damage in the event of a fall.
