This is the motto under which DT Swiss is launching its first wheels with carbon spokes, which offer excellent aerodynamics as well as low weight.Especially in combination with the Continental Grand Prix 5000 S TR tires, the competition is shown the limits and the word air resistance almost loses its meaning. With them, you can really pick up speed uphill and easily leave the peloton behind you.
The idea, development and test phase was a successful experiment between DT Swiss, Continental and the aerodynamics experts at Swiss Side. In addition to the goal of being the best and fastest, the close interaction of the various components was taken to a new level and creative solutions were sought. Thanks to their carefully considered selection and the typically high manufacturing quality, you are guaranteed the best functionality and a long service life.
ARC 38 mm AERO+ carbon rim
Carbon has also become the first choice of rim material at DT Swiss, with the Swiss company implementing a new concept in the production process that makes additional coating unnecessary. This saves weight and achieves an exceptional surface finish.The 38 mm high sidewall, together with the V-shape cross-section, ensures very good aerodynamic values without putting unnecessary strain on the scales and shows its advantages above all in mountainous terrain, but also allows you to make good speed on the flat.Externally, the rim shape was developed according to the DT Swiss AERO+ concept and shows its advantages especially in crosswinds. Air currents hitting at an angle create a sailing effect, which gives you additional propulsion and allows you to save a lot of energy. The internal nipples also increase the streamlining effect and give the wheel a clean look.
The dreaded negative influences on the steering torque have also been minimized. These have the effect that strong and asymmetrical crosswinds can lead to abrupt changes in flow and sometimes trigger uncontrollable steering movements, which makes precise and smooth riding much more difficult. The AERO+ profile ensures an even distribution of lateral force, allowing you to ride at a relaxed pace.
Thanks to the contemporary inner width of 20 mm, even large-volume tires are perfectly supported, which prevents them from kinking in fast bends and ensures greater riding stability and better damping capacity. In addition, the rim is of course designed for tubeless systems, allowing you to ride with a lower air pressure, further improving comfort and grip and reducing susceptibility to punctures.
Continental Grand Prix 5000 S TR Tubeless 28" | 700 x 28C BlackChili VectranBreaker tires
Although the Continental Grand Prix 5000 is still one of the fastest and most popular road bike tires, it didn't stop the German manufacturer's developers from launching a tubeless-ready (TR) version that has been improved in all areas.
At first glance, the 5000 S TR is almost indistinguishable from the previous version. However, the familiar Lazer Grip tread structure conceals a completely new design. In contrast to the previous version, the 5000 S TR has only 2 instead of 3 layers of fabric under the tread. This ensures better adaptation to the surface and contributes significantly to the 20% reduction in rolling resistance. Thanks to the Vectran Breaker puncture protection layer and the grippy Black Chili tread inherited from the previous version, the reduced number of plies does not have a negative effect on puncture protection. The sidewalls still consist of 3 layers with a newly added protective layer. This not only improves the puncture protection of the sidewalls by 28 %, it also ensures a more stable running of the tire at low air pressures. A new, patented tubeless construction, which does not require a sealing rubber layer, makes the tire 50 grams lighter than the previous version.
Long awaited by many Conti fans, the new 5000 S TR is now also compatible with hookless rims. However, it can still be ridden with classic clincher rims and also with a tube.
The new tubeless tire has already proven its outstanding properties and versatility in racing. Both the world champion title in the individual time trial and the victory at Paris-Roubaix were won on the 5000 ST R.
DT Swiss 180 Spline hub
No compromises are made in the center either, where the elegant DT Swiss 180 spline hub spins. Despite its very low weight, it can withstand even the toughest applications thanks to its proven design and always guarantees reliable propulsion with the ratchet EXP freehub. Thanks to the large-area power transmission via 36 teeth, the system can transmit significantly greater forces than a pawl freewheel and is less susceptible to wear.The patented two-in-one spoke mounts give the hub a slim shape and support the wheel's good aerodynamics. The perfectly sealed SINC ceramic bearings are legendary. In addition to incredibly smooth running, they guarantee a long service life and low maintenance.
Vonoa Aero carbon spokes
The highlight of this front wheel is definitely the spokes. They are not made of steel as usual, but of carbon fibers and are approx. 40 % lighter per piece. Together with the lightweight rims, they ensure incredible acceleration values and the best uphill performance. In addition, their aerodynamic shape offers little resistance to the wind, allowing you to save valuable energy. They are also extremely tear-resistant, which means that the wheel can be built very stably and durably even with just 18 spokes.
