DT SWISS rear wheel 27.5 "EXC 1501 Spline One 30 mm | 12x148 mm BOOST thru axle | Center Lock
DT Swiss has subjected its popular 1501 Spline wheel series for the model year 2021 to a "Carbonized" treatment. What is meant is the use of lighter and stiffer carbon rims compared to the built-in aluminum rims of the previous versions. But the wheels weren't just optimized on the rims. The current 240 EXP hubs rotate in the center of the wheels and, in addition to reducing weight, transmit the drive forces even more directly and reliably. The total of optimizations in the Carbonized versions saves up to 180 grams of weight per wheelset compared to the previous version.
Requirements-specific carbon rims
The use of carbon enables the properties and wall thicknesses of the rims to be specifically adapted to their intended use . Not only cross country riders benefit from the lower moment of inertia and better acceleration due to the lighter rims. The more agile and precise handling is also having a positive impact in the all-mountain and enduro area. With their large inner width of 30 millimeters, the rims offer modern enduro tires very good support at low air pressures. In addition, the driver benefits from lower rolling resistance due to the wider shape of the tire and the possibility of further reducing the air pressure in rough terrain without risking a tire jumping off.
DT Swiss 240 EXP hubs
Lighter, stiffer, more precise and easier to maintain - these are the strengths of the newly launched DT Swiss 240 hubs. These properties were achieved through the Ratchet EXP technology. With this, the hubs not only manage with fewer components and the associated lower weight and less wear, it also allows the bearing to be placed significantly further out on the drive side. The larger distance between the bearings results in a higher stiffness of the hub, a lower bearing load and thus a higher durability. The rigidity on the hub body serves to distribute the load more evenly on the spokes. Drive and braking forces are transmitted even better from both spoke flanges to all spokes. The super reliable tooth lock washer freewheel system with its large contact surface and 36 locking points ensures extremely direct and reliable power transmission.
Competition Race Straightpull spokes
The high rigidity of the carbon rims allows the 1501 wheels to be built with the weight-optimized Competition Race spokes without negatively affecting their durability. The low weight of the spokes is achieved by a center section that is tapered to 1.6 millimeters. Straightpull spokes ensure that the wheels are more resilient due to the omission of the sensitive spoke arches.
PHR nipple system
Stands for Pro Head Reinforcement System, in which the nipple and rim form a kind of ball joint. This ensures a flat contact surface between the nipple and the rim, which makes it easier to align the nipple. Thus, the spokes are always at the right angle to the rim and the forces can be transferred better. The DT Squorx nipple have on the underside a Torx mount , which ensures a better tool holder for a more precise centering. On the outside, the Squorx nipples can still be tightened with a conventional standard nipple wrench.
