Ever since Shimano launched the GRX, a specific groupset for gravel riders, it has been synonymous with reliability, durability and functionality. After minor optimizations, the Japanese company has made a major leap with this version. Thanks to the 1x12-speed drivetrain, modern wireless control and the usual outstanding build quality, there are no limits to your bike dreams and you get a loyal companion for your adventures.
The RX710 version, just below the 825 top groupset, is in no way inferior. Equipped with slightly cheaper materials and simpler ergonomics, it still impresses with excellent performance.
The GRX shift/brake levers have a grip geometry and surface texture specially optimized for gravel use. The upper hump has been raised to prevent you from slipping forwards on rough surfaces and the shape has been optimized for wide-opening.And to prevent your hands from sliding back and forth even when riding in the rain, a non-slip material has been selected which also has good damping properties and therefore increases comfort.
Shifting is done at the touch of a button. This is quick and effortless. The pressure point is so precise that unintentional gear changes are practically impossible. This wireless system is also fully customizable with the help of the Shimano E-Tube app. Among other things, the shifting speed can be set, a fully or semi-synchronous shifting mode can be selected and the program buttons on the lever can be assigned specific functions. Energy consumption is also very low. According to Shimano, the two CR1632 button cells should supply the electronics with power for over 3 years. The absence of wiring not only simplifies installation, but also gives you a neat and tidy cockpit.
The GRX brake lever has been designed so that you can stop quickly at any time from any grip position. The pivot point of the lever has been moved upwards. This improves ergonomics and at the same time reduces the hand force required. In addition, the grip width can be individually adjusted so that bikers with smaller hands can also ride comfortably.
The performance of the GRX BR-RX410 brake calliper will also fully convince you. Perfectly finished and visually flat, it significantly enhances your gravel bike with flat mount. Its power is not visible from the outside. Nevertheless, the 2 pistons are very effective and bring you safely to a stop in any riding situation. Despite the 10 % increase in brake pad spacing compared to its predecessor, the pressure point is reached quickly and the excellent modulation helps you to stop precisely. In addition, the special design prevents annoying squeaking. The resin pads installed here guarantee high braking performance at all times and, compared to the metal pads, ensure less noise and less wear on the brake disc.
Bleeding is also very easy thanks to the one-way bleeding technology and can be done by anyone with a little manual skill.
