RAKETA COMPONENTS Crank Gravel | SRAM 8-bolt 30 mm Spindle | silver | 155 mm
Rockets, the heart of space travel, are subject to considerable stress: enormous accelerations, high speeds, extreme temperatures and the vacuum of space. In this environment, the highest standards of quality and precision are not just ideals, but vital requirements. Space rockets must function reliably - during launch, in space and on re-entry into the earth's atmosphere. The selection of the best materials and workmanship with maximum precision are therefore crucial to ensure safety, functionality and reliability. Even the smallest deviations can have catastrophic consequences, which is why no compromises are possible in the space industry.
A similar demand for technical excellence is also evident at Raketa Components. Although the company is dedicated to cycling and not space travel, it focuses on the highest material quality and processing precision when developing its components.
Selected aluminum alloys with outstanding mechanical properties, precision-manufactured with minimal tolerances, form the basis for cranks that offer maximum rigidity and uncompromising reliability.
If you want to be as fast as a rocket on your racing bike, you need a highly effective power transmission that doesn't waste a single watt. For this reason, Raketa cranks are 20 percent stiffer than the current generation of SRAM Red or Shimano Dura Ace cranks. This allows you to transform every pedal stroke into direct acceleration and constant propulsion - for maximum speed with minimum energy loss.
During the development phase, Raketa used computer-aided simulation methods to precisely analyze the physical loads on the crank arms. The aim was to design a structure that not only impresses with its high rigidity, but also has a competitive weight and virtually eliminates material fatigue.
Developed on the basis of experience from track cycling, where Raketa has been supporting world-class cyclists for years as a material supplier, the result is components of the highest quality. Valuable feedback directly from competition use flows into product development. In no other racing class are drive components exposed to such enormous loads as in track cycling. In disciplines such as sprint or keirin, riders briefly pedal at extremely high power levels - often over 2000 watts. Any deformation of the crank would noticeably cost performance.
Raketa does not use the usual 7075-T6 aluminum as the material for the crank arms, but an alloy that is truly suitable for racing. Exactly which alloy is used is subject to secrecy - as befits a real rocket project. What Raketa does reveal, however, is that it is one of the highest quality alloys in the 7000 series, with unique material properties that enable an exceptional stiffness-to-weight ratio and guarantee maximum reliability even under extreme loads.
The best material deserves the best workmanship. The crank arms therefore undergo an elaborate manufacturing process that takes a whole ten hours from the blank to the precisely CNC-milled and masterfully finished result. Each crank system is given the characteristic Raketa surface quality - with hand-polished crank arms and an incomparably shiny anodized finish.
Exclusive to the silver version, the inner structure of the high-performance material is revealed after polishing. The irregular grain makes each crank an expressive, unique piece with personality.
Each Gravel crank has a 30 mm spindle with a width of 129 mm, which fits perfectly on the bearings of the bottom bracket. Raketa manufactures all crankshafts in-house with a tolerance of less than 0.005 mm, eliminating the need for additional shims to correct manufacturing tolerances. A robust, CNC-milled aluminum preload ring sits on the spindle to ensure that the bearing play can be precisely adjusted in the future.
In principle, the cranks are compatible with both direct mount chainrings and bottom brackets from other manufacturers. In order to fully exploit the potential of a holistically conceived system for optimum power transmission, Raketa offers precision-manufactured bottom brackets and torsion-resistant chainrings from its own production.
