This wheelset can also withstand the special stresses of an e-bike drive. The indestructible Hope hubs and the superbly crafted Duke rims are forgiving of the occasional riding error. The well-balanced selection of components guarantees you a high level of reliability and a long service life.
Hubs
The Pro 5 e-bike hubs from the English cult manufacturer from Barnoldswick are at the heart of the system. The experience gained from 30 years of designing and manufacturing high-quality drive elements has been incorporated into their development with the aim of improving proven technology in order to meet the demands of current and future bicycle technology.
The design of the rear hub differs significantly from its predecessor, with an enlarged body that generates more rigidity without increasing the weight. This is noticeable above all in a significantly more direct ride. At the same time, the diameter of the spoke flange has been increased, making it easier to build very stable wheels.
The highlight of the rear wheel hub is the new freewheel system with 6 pawls. All six are engaged simultaneously when riding and can absorb and distribute the high power of the e-bike drive evenly. In addition, the freehub gearing has been increased from 44 (Pro 4) to 54 teeth, resulting in a low freewheel travel of just 6.66°.
The hub can withstand negative external influences for a long time, thanks to the high-quality anodization and the very well-sealed stainless steel industrial bearings. Should the ravages of time take their toll on the hub, it can be dismantled and serviced with little effort. It can also be easily converted to a different hub standard.
Rims
Duke rims from France stand for low weight and excellent workmanship. The hookless design is ideal for use with tubeless systems. The reinforced bead means that any punctures can be better absorbed without causing damage. The fairly flat and wide rims reliably support the tire in any situation, so you won't have a spongy ride even with low air pressure.
The asymmetrical shape enables a more even spoke tension, which further increases the stiffness of the entire wheel.
Spokes
The Race spoke is the classic from Sapim. It is a round spoke with a butted center section with a diameter of 1.8 mm. This provides more damping than non-tapered spokes. In addition, short load peaks can be better digested. The Race spoke enables very stiff and stable wheels for practically any application. The weight including nipple is approx. 6.95g per piece.
Wheel construction at R2-Bike
Our wheels are assembled completely by hand by our wheel builders. During the entire assembly process, great importance is attached to ensuring that not only the concentricity is correct, but also that the spoke tension is as even as possible. This special care allows us to give the first owner a lifetime guarantee against spoke breakage, as long as it was not caused by force.
