This wheelset can also withstand the special stresses of an e-bike drive. The indestructible Chris King hubs and the superbly crafted Duke rims are forgiving of the occasional riding error. The well-balanced selection of components guarantees you a high level of reliability and a long service life.
Hubs
CHRIS KING hubs have a certain myth attached to them. They have been on the market for years and yet they are not old hat. Thanks to their proven technical inner workings, constant further development in detail and unmistakable appearance, they have become a true cult object.
Thanks to the large hub flange of the ISO hubs, shorter spokes can be used when building wheels. This not only saves weight, but also makes for a very stable and durable wheel.
The unmistakable sound of the freewheel is the trademark of the rear hubs. Chris King himself calls it the "Angry Bee Sound", which is generated by the 72 grid points of the stainless steel sprocket. Thanks to this 3-piece RingDrive system, every pedal stroke is immediately converted into propulsion without much idle travel.
At the heart of the hub are the ball bearings. These are also developed and produced directly at Chris King. This means they can be fully adapted to the specific loads and forces. Thanks to the multiple seals, the ingress of water or dirt is virtually impossible.
These unique features are still part of the hubs in the 4th generation, but the inner workings have been fundamentally improved in terms of maintenance and service. Thanks to universal and versatile axle components, conversion to other hub or freewheel standards has become much more cost-effective. The use of common bearing sizes guarantees better compatibility with each other. The disassembly and assembly of the hub has also been significantly simplified and the preload can be adjusted more precisely.
Rims
The rims from Duke in France stand for low weight and excellent workmanship. The hookless design is ideal for the use of tubeless systems. The reinforced bead means that any punctures can be better absorbed without causing damage. The fairly flat and wide rims reliably support the tire in any situation, so you won't have a spongy ride even with low air pressure.
The asymmetrical shape enables a more even spoke tension, which further increases the stiffness of the entire wheel.
Spokes
The Race spoke is the classic from Sapim! It is a round spoke with a butted center section with a diameter of 1.8 mm. This provides more damping than non-tapered spokes. In addition, short load peaks can be better digested. The Race spoke enables very stiff and stable wheels for practically any application. The weight including nipple is approx. 6.95g per piece.
Wheel construction at R2-Bike
Our wheels are assembled completely by hand by our wheel builders. During the entire assembly process, great importance is attached to ensuring that not only the concentricity is correct, but also that the spoke tension is as even as possible. This special care allows us to give the first owner a lifetime guarantee against spoke breakage, as long as it was not caused by force.
