Behind Princeton Carbon Works are the founder Marty Crotty and the three co-founders Brad Werntz, Harrison Macris and Paul Daniels. Marty, a former college rower and Ironman triathlete, had the idea of designing his own original high-end aero carbon wheels. Together with his then acquaintance Brad Werntz, at the time a rower and student majoring in mechanical and aerospace engineering, they developed the first ideas for a revolutionary high-profile wheel in 2012. Also from rowing circles, they brought Harrison Macris, a mechanical engineering student from Boston, and marketing expert Paul Daniels on board. Since the market launch of the Wake 6560 wheelset in 2017, Princeton wheels have been causing a stir with their design and excellent test results. Another milestone in the company's history is the partnership with the Ineos-Grenadiers professional team, which is known to choose its equipment exclusively from a performance perspective and has now achieved numerous World Tour victories on Princeton Carbon Wheels.
Their balanced characteristics make the Wake 6560 wheels the first choice for anyone looking for aerodynamically optimized top wheels that are nevertheless lighter and have better crosswind stability than flatter wheels from the competition.
Now in its 5th generation, Princeton's engineers have achieved the biggest leap in performance from one version to the next in their flagship wheelset. The distinctive rim shape of the wheels has changed drastically compared to previous versions. The current Evolution profile uses alternating deep and shallow rim sections with alternating spoke sides. Mechanically, this ensures that the steeper spokes with high tension (the rear spokes on the drive side and the front spokes on the disk side) are connected to a deeper rim section, reinforcing these spoke angles. The modified stiffening angle helps to equalize the spoke tensions, resulting in a stiffer and more consistent wheel. In addition, the current generation of wheels has become even wider with an inner width of 21 millimetres and an outer width of 28 millimetres, which ensures perfect aerodynamic integration of 25 to 28 millimetre wide tires. In addition to improved aerodynamic efficiency at all flow angles, the rim weight has also been reduced by a further 10 grams per rim. Thanks to the tubeless rim bed without holes, tubeless tires or folding tires with tubes can be ridden without rim tape. The absence of holes has also made it possible to make the rim well thinner and lighter, while still giving the rim greater rigidity compared to a classic rim well.For the greatest possible safety under all conditions, Princeton continues to rely on rims with hooks, which means that the rims can be used without tire pressure restrictions and the maximum permitted values of the tire manufacturers can be used. The wheels are spoked with Sapim CX-Ray bladed spokes and ultra-light Tactic Racing TR01 hubs with ABEC 7 ceramic bearings.
