SRAM - the giant from Chicago
SRAM is one of the biggest producers of bike components in the world. The
US-American company is located in Chicago and was founded by 3 friends in 1987.
SRAM became apparent with the Grip-Shift, which changes the gear by swivelling at
the bar. SRAM became a giant for bike components for beginners and pros both on
mountain and race bikes by buying companies like Sachs, Rock Shox, Avid,
Truvativ and Zipp.
SRAM keeps on surprising the bike scene with new, revolutionary ideas and
innovations for bikes. Most of the SRAM gear components are developed in Germany,
where they run an ultra-modern centre for research and product design in
Schweinfurt. The SRAM XX1 has been designed there. Besides drive train
components, SRAM offers also derailleurs,
cranks,
chains,
cassettes,
brakes,
wheelsets and
power meters.
