R2BIKE wheelset 29" XC | DT Swiss 240 | Duke Lucky Jack SLS5 Ultra 245g 31 mm + 285g 28 mm | SRAM XD | Sapim CX-Ray
Application: Cross Country XC
XC racers always want to win and are therefore looking for lightweight yet stable wheels. Thanks to the combination of Duke Lucky Jack SLS5 rims and the indestructible DT Swiss 240 EXP hubs, you will always be at the front of the field. The balanced selection of components guarantees you high reliability and a long service life.
DT Swiss 240 EXP hubs
Lighter, stiffer, more precise and easier to maintain - these are the strengths of the DT Swiss 240 hubs. These properties have been achieved thanks to the Ratchet EXP technology. This not only means that the hubs have fewer components and therefore lower weight and less wear, it also allows the bearing to be positioned much further out on the drive side. The greater distance between the bearings results in greater hub rigidity, lower bearing loads and therefore greater durability. The stiffness on the hub body serves to distribute the load more evenly on the spokes. Drive and braking forces are transmitted even better from both spoke flanges to all spokes. One-sided load peaks are prevented, which protects the hub, spokes and rim. The super reliable EXP toothed pulley freehub system with its large contact surface and 36 engagement points ensures extremely direct and reliable power transmission.
Rims Lucky Jack SLS5 245g 31 mm Ultra + 285g 28 mm
With the Lucky Jack SLS5, the Duke becomes a king. The French have once again succeeded in significantly improving their cross-country rim compared to the previous version. In doing so, they have once again pushed the seemingly technically possible limits.
But how did they do it this time? The use of the highest quality carbon fibers was a matter of course from the outset. Clever use of materials means that only as much is used as is actually needed. No compromises were made in the choice of resin either. This has proven itself in aerospace technology, reduces weight and at the same time increases impact resistance. As a result, there is no need for post-processing or painting after production. A new feature of the SLS5 production process is the integrated DRC (Dynamic Response Comfort) technology, which guarantees controlled deformation of the rim off-road and allows the stored energy to be used for explosive acceleration out of corners. It also improves control of your bike and significantly increases comfort.
Despite all the optimization, durability must not fall by the wayside. Duke presses so-called ImpactGuard's, highly elastic energy-absorbing inserts, into the cavities on both sides of the rim, which can absorb mechanical impacts and thus contribute significantly to stability.
The new design, with the small hump on the inside of the rim, also absorbs high load peaks better without increasing the weight. In addition, the preformed spoke holes, the spoke cores, ensure a continuous structure of the carbon fibers. This means that subsequent drilling of these holes is not necessary.
The rims of the SLS5 series also have an asymmetrical rim profile, which enables a more even spoke angle. This optimization of the spoke angle has a number of advantages. The tension on both sides can be better aligned, which is beneficial to the durability of the spokes and the wheel as a whole. The normally direction-dependent lateral stiffness is also equalized, making the wheel more stable.
The Ultra version on the front wheel is probably the lightest rim in the MTB-Duke range. It ensures agile steering behavior and contributes significantly to the low weight of the wheelset. The Lucky Jack 285g is used at the rear, which can withstand the occasional heavy puncture and still shines on the scales.
Sapim CX-Ray spokes
With the CX-Ray, Sapim has succeeded in developing an exceptional spoke. In addition to its low weight, it has an exceptional load capacity and flexibility. This results in a wide range of applications. Whether road cyclists or mountain bikers - everyone benefits from these positive properties. In addition, the flattened center section ensures excellent aerodynamics. The high material quality enables the construction of stable wheels and guarantees a long service life.
Wheel construction at R2-Bike
Our wheels are assembled entirely by hand by our wheel builders. During the entire assembly process, great importance is attached to ensuring that not only the concentricity is correct, but also that the spoke tension is as even as possible. This special care allows us to give the first owner a lifetime guarantee against spoke breakage, as long as it was not caused by force.
The following services are also included for first-time buyers:
You get a universal wheel bag for all common sizes included.
You will receive a spare spoke with nipple in all required spoke lengths so that you can repair the wheel quickly after an accident.
Within 2 years of purchase, you will receive a free initial inspection of the wheel, during which the resulting work is completely free of charge. Only shipping costs are incurred.
You get a crash replacement promise: If your wheel is damaged due to force majeure within 2 years of purchase, we will rebuild it once. We grant a 100% discount on all labor costs and only charge for the material.
