R2BIKE wheelset 29" XC DC | DT Swiss 180 EXP MTB Straightpull Center Lock hubs | Duke Carbon rims
Application: Cross Country XC, Down Country DC
XC racers always want to win and are therefore looking for lightweight yet stable wheels. The combination of Duke Carbon rims and DT Swiss hubs should therefore always be on your shortlist. The balanced component selection guarantees you high reliability and a long service life.
Hubs
Lighter, stiffer, more precise and easier to maintain - these are the strengths of the DT Swiss 180 hubs. The smooth-running SINC Ceramic ball bearings offer you a further decisive advantage; they ensure minimal rolling resistance. The stiffness of the hub body serves to distribute the load more evenly on the spokes. Drive and braking forces are transmitted even better from both spoke flanges to all spokes. One-sided load peaks are prevented, which protects the hub, spokes and rim. The RATCHET EXP toothed disc freewheel has also been further developed. This highly reliable system ensures direct power transmission without losses.
The main advantages of Straightpull hubs, apart from the modern design, are contactless spokes that do not cause any unpleasant noises and spoke heads that cannot work their way into the spoke flange. However, if desired, the straightpull hubs can also be cross-spoked.
Rims
With the Lucky Jack SLS5, the Duke becomes a king. The French have once again succeeded in significantly improving their cross-country rim compared to the previous version. In doing so, they have once again pushed the seemingly technically possible boundaries.
But how did they do it this time? The use of the highest quality carbon fibers was a matter of course from the outset. Clever use of materials means that only as much is used as is actually needed. In contrast to the Ultra version, particularly vulnerable areas, such as the rim flange or base, were reinforced. No compromises were made in the choice of resin either. This has proven itself in aerospace technology, reduces weight and at the same time increases impact resistance. As a result, there is no need for reworking or painting after production. A new feature of the SLS5 production process is the integrated DRC (Dynamic Response Comfort) technology, which guarantees controlled deformation of the rim off-road and allows the stored energy to be used for explosive acceleration out of corners. It also improves control of your bike and significantly increases comfort.
Despite all the optimization, durability must not fall by the wayside. Duke presses so-called ImpactGuard's, highly elastic energy-absorbing inserts, into the cavities on both sides of the rim, which can absorb mechanical impacts and thus contribute significantly to stability.
The new shape, with the small hump on the inside of the rim, also absorbs high load peaks better without increasing the weight. In addition, the pre-formed spoke holes, the spoke cores, ensure a continuous structure of the carbon fibers. This means that subsequent drilling of these is not necessary.
The rims of the SLS5 series also have an asymmetrical rim profile, which enables a more even spoke angle. This optimization of the spoke angle has a number of advantages. The tension on both sides can be better aligned, which is beneficial to the durability of the spokes and the wheel as a whole. The normally direction-dependent lateral stiffness is also adjusted, making the wheel more stable.
Please note the maximum permissible system weight in the rim selection menu under "Show description".
Wheel construction at R2-Bike
Our wheels are assembled entirely by hand by our wheel builders. During the entire assembly process, great importance is attached to ensuring that not only the concentricity is correct, but also that the spoke tension is as even as possible. This special care allows us to give the first owner a lifetime guarantee against spoke breakage, as long as it was not caused by force.
The following services are also included for first-time buyers:
You get a universal wheel bag for all common sizes included.
You will receive a spare spoke with nipple in all required spoke lengths so that you can repair the wheel quickly after an accident.
Within 2 years of purchase, you will receive a free initial inspection of the wheel, during which the resulting work is completely free of charge. Only shipping costs are incurred.
You get a crash replacement promise: If your wheel is damaged due to force majeure within 2 years of purchase, we will rebuild it once. We grant a 100% discount on all labor costs and only charge for the material.
