The Lightweight Generation EVO is here, either you ride it or you will be overtaken by it! Since their market launch, the full carbon wheels from Friedrichshafen have been one of the most sought-after wheelsets among road bike enthusiasts and professional riders alike. For Lightweight, however, this is no reason to rest on its laurels, but motivation to significantly improve each new generation of wheelsets and equip them with new features.
Named after the founder of the legendary wheel manufacturer from Lake Constance, the Obermayer EVO Disc occupies the top position among the Lightweight wheels. Weighing 1230 grams, it is one of the lightest disc wheelsets on the market. But the low weight is not the only reason for the outstanding climbing performance and agility when setting off: the laminated carbon spokes connected at the junctions also ensure the high rigidity of the wheels, which convert every kick and every acceleration into propulsion with virtually no loss. The highly modular full carbon spokes specially developed for disc brakes also help to transmit braking forces better and ensure extremely precise braking behavior. The increased inner rim width of 18.2 millimetres and the tubeless-ready profile ensure a wider range of applications.
The Obermayer EVO is made from LCC (Lightweight Custom Composite) carbon fibers, which are already used in a similar form in the aerospace industry. Their special combination of thin prepregs and highly rigid fiber types makes it possible to reduce the wall thickness without compromising on durability and safety. The foam core inside the rims (Active Foam Core) also makes it possible to produce wheels with a lower weight. The Active Foam Core not only prevents deformation of the rims, it also has a vibration-damping effect and ensures a pleasantly smooth ride.
The inner workings of the DT-Swiss 240s hubs, which are concealed under the innovative Pentagon SL carbon hub shell, ensure smooth running and durability. Compared to the standard version, the weight of the SL hubs has been reduced by a further 60 g. In addition to its special appearance, the design prevents the hub body from overheating on long descents.
