With the Sidekick hubs, e*thirteen presents an innovative hub technology that is particularly aimed at the gravity department among bikers. Because the harder you let it rip, the more you will know it, the pedal kickback.
It's the unsightly, rearward blow on your crank when the suspension travel works its way through its characteristic curve and thus moves the rear triangle. Pedal kickback occurs particularly at low speeds, slow descents and edges, as well as when the rear wheel is locked. But what technical possibilities are there to reduce or even eliminate this effect? By the way, there is no chain. But where do the chain and brake come together? Exactly, at the rear wheel hub.

This is where the revolutionary e*thirteen Sidekick rear hub comes into play. It has its own freewheel mechanism that decouples the drivetrain from the suspension when coasting, allowing for a smoother, safer ride over rough terrain. As the problem is eliminated at source, you benefit from improved traction, better use of suspension travel and therefore greater driving stability and safety.

In addition to decoupling the drivetrain when the rear wheel coasts, an adjustable "dead center band" filters out unwanted kickbacks and chain vibrations before they spread to the pedals.

Thanks to classic J-bend spokes and a high flange on both sides, the result is high rigidity. Drive and braking forces are transmitted even better from both spoke flanges to all spokes. One-sided load peaks are prevented, which protects the hub, spokes and rim. Thanks to the use of elaborate seals and bearing sizes (6903 & 6808) adapted to the loads, the hubs do not require adjustment of the bearing play.
