Whether it's criteriums, road races or time trials, the 80 mm Zipp 808 wheels are perfect for any type of race where maximum speed is important. With their legendary Firecrest rim shape, the 808 ensure high aero efficiency and crosswind stability. At 23 millimeters, the inner rim width has increased significantly compared to its predecessors. As a result, the rims not only offer wider tires optimum support at low air pressures, they also integrate the tires into the rim profile in an extremely aerodynamically efficient manner. In addition, the hookless design creates an almost seamless transition between the tire and rim flanks. The elimination of the hooks also makes the rim flanges more robust in the event of punctures and contributes to the significant weight saving compared to the previous versions. In combination with further optimizations in the structure of the carbon layers, the weight of the wheelset has been reduced to 1635 grams. An optimized rim bed ensures easier tire mounting.
Total System Efficiency (TSE)
The 808 wheels were developed using the TSE approach. The development goal was to find the best possible wheel design to overcome the speed barriers that exist under realistic riding conditions. These include wind resistance, gravity and rolling resistance as well as vibration losses in poor road conditions.
ABLC Dimples
The ABLC dimples (dimples on the outside of the rim) help to reduce air resistance and ensure very high crosswind stability, especially at larger angles of attack.
Zipp ZR1 hubs
The Zipp ZR1 hubs were developed in Germany over the course of two years. Their outstanding feature is the extremely fine-toothed freehub body design of the rear hub with 66 engagement points per wheel revolution, which allows the ZR1 to respond to acceleration without delay. The fine toothing is realized via a system of 6 pawls, 3 of which engage in an offset manner. The design of the seals is based on the high-end Cognition hubs and provides more protection and durability with a larger dust cap behind the freehub body and better seals.
Zipp Lifetime Warranty
Zipp grants you a lifetime warranty on your Zipp wheel when used properly. The warranty also covers racing use and damage caused by riding errors as long as the wheel has been used for its intended purpose. The warranty is only valid for the original purchaser and proof of purchase is mandatory!
NOTE: Due to the hookless profile, the Zipp 808 wheels are only suitable for use with ETRTO-compliant tubeless tires. However, the corresponding tubeless tires can be ridden on the wheels with a tube without any problems. You can find an overview of all compatible tires for your Zipp Hookless wheel here.
