ZIPP rear wheel 28" Super-9 disc wheel | Tubeless Carbon Clincher | Center Lock | 12x142 mm thru axle | Shimano Road freehub body
Zipp spared no expense or effort in the development of the new Super-9 disk. No less than 7 prototypes were extensively tested in the wind tunnel and compared with premium disc wheels from the competition. In addition, 8 of the most popular time trial and triathlon frames were tested with the prototypes to ensure that the disc wheel is as fast as possible in all conditions and on every course.
The sidewalls of the new Super-9 disc run wide and parallel from the hub and only taper inwards when they meet the hookless tire board. With this design, the engineers at Zipp have succeeded in creating a more aerodynamically favorable transition between the rim profile and the tire. Despite its ingenious shape, the Super-9 is one of the lightest disc wheels on the market. 23 millimetre internal rim width means that the Super-9 has been optimized for 28 millimetre wide tubeless tires with low air pressures. According to the Zipp Total System Efficiency approach, this wheel and tire combination is the fastest and most efficient solution on a wide range of road surfaces. Contrary to the outdated opinion that only a thin, hard-packed tire is fast, riding with a 28 millimeter wide tire at a maximum pressure of 5 bar offers several advantages according to Zipp. Especially in poor road conditions, this setup rolls more efficiently and tires the rider less. A triathlete thus spares his muscles for the upcoming race. It also improves handling and cornering grip.
The redesigned pump access with integrated cover ensures easy pumping.
Total System Efficiency (TSE)
The Zipp Super 9 disk wheel was developed under the TSE approach. The development goal was to find the best possible wheel design to overcome the speed barriers that exist under realistic riding conditions. In addition to wind resistance, gravity and rolling resistance, these also include vibration losses in poor road conditions.
TyreWiz 2.0 tire pressure gauge
With the integrated TyeWiz 2.0, you can always keep an eye on your tire pressure, receive feedback on fine adjustments on the road and be warned in the event of a loss of pressure. The practical sensor sends real-time air pressure data via Bluetooth or ANT+ to the AXS smartphone app or your bike computer. In addition, red and green LEDs on the sensor indicate whether the air pressure is within the range you have defined. With its flat design and weight of just 10 grams, the TyreWiz 2.0 fits perfectly into any wheel. With an accuracy of +/-2%, the air pressure is displayed with a resolution of 0.1 PSI. The supplied CR1632 battery supplies the TyreWiz with power for up to 300 operating hours. The system is compatible with tubeless tires and all tubeless sealants available on the market.
ZR1 hub
With 66 engagement points per wheel revolution, the Zipp ZR1 hub ensures an extremely direct response. The fine gearing is realized by a pawl system with 6 pawls, of which 3 pawls engage alternately. The ceramic bearings ensure a further reduction in driving resistance.
ImPress graphics
Zipp lettering is printed directly onto the rim using ImPress graphics technology. This allows the recessed structures on the rims to develop their full effect.
Zipp Lifetime Warranty
Zipp grants you a lifetime warranty on your Zipp wheel when used properly. The warranty also covers racing use and damage caused by riding errors as long as the wheel has been used for its intended purpose. The warranty is only valid for the original purchaser and proof of purchase is mandatory!
NOTE: Due to the hookless profile, the Super-9 disc wheel is only suitable for use with ETRTO-compliant tubeless tires. However, the corresponding tubeless tires can be ridden on the wheel with a tube without any problems (required valve length 40 - 50 mm). You can find an overview of all compatible tires for your Zipp Hookless wheel here.
