E-bikes place very special demands on the drive and shifting components. For the higher torques involved and for everyday drivers who drive in the same gear for long periods of time, wear resistance and smooth running after long use are of crucial importance. Shimano took these requirements into account when developing the Linkglide components. Both on e-bikes and everyday bikes, the specially reinforced and optimized components allow smooth shifting for years.
The CS-LG700 cassette largely contributes to the extremely long service life of the Linkglide drive. Compared to the Shimano Hyperglide cassettes, the shift gates were designed in such a way that the shifting processes are a little slower, but softer and smoother. Despite the high chain tensions that are typical of e-bikes, the durability was increased by around 300% compared to conventional cassettes. Even as the service life progresses, the Linkglide design still ensures smooth shifting in both directions and smooth chain travel.
To reduce weight, the spider is made of aluminum, while the sprockets are still made of coated, durable steel. Due to the large transmission range of 11-50 teeth, even the steepest ramps can be climbed.
