Braking power straight from Mount Doom! With the KAHA disc brake, mechanical engineer Taylor Grey proves that New Zealand has more to offer than hobbits and fateful rings. His specialty is additive manufacturing in the automotive industry - and it is precisely this expertise that he is now bringing to the development and production of bicycle components.
The name "KAHA" comes from the language of the Māori, the indigenous people of New Zealand, and can be translated as inner strength or physical power. The brake more than lives up to this meaning: thanks to the large mechanical transmission ratio between finger force and clamping force of the brake calliper, it delivers impressive braking power. At the same time, it impresses with a precise pressure point, which is made possible by a very short free travel, steel flex lines and the brake levers with bearings.
However, a good brake is not only characterized by pure power, but also by easy maintenance: The brake caliper has a continuous brake fluid channel that flows through all pistons one after the other. This allows the system to be completely flushed when bleeding. Another clever detail: the pistons have an integrated thread which, in combination with the special tool supplied, enables easy removal and installation.
