With this wheelset you can really let it rip even in difficult terrain. The indestructible Industry Nine hubs and the superbly crafted Newmen carbon rims are forgiving of the odd riding mistake, while the well-balanced selection of components guarantees you a high level of reliability and a long service life.
The innovative "Mullet" design gives you the advantages of two wheel sizes in one bike. The 29" front wheel generates maximum grip and low rolling resistance, while the smaller rear wheel increases maneuverability and rear clearance and reduces weight.
Hubs
Completely redesigned - the Hydra 2 hubs have been developed to withstand even the toughest conditions. Five years of further development and feedback from over 100,000 Hydra 1 hubs sold worldwide have gone into the Hydra 2.
Every Classic Mountain hub is manufactured from start to finish in Asheville, NC, at Industry Nine. From turning and milling the hub shell, axles and end caps, to wire EDMing A2 tool steel for the pawls and spider, to the in-house anodizing facility, every step of the design, engineering, manufacturing and assembly process is performed to the most exacting standards in the industry. Thanks to this complete production from a single source, consistent hub quality is always guaranteed.
The Hydra 2 Classic MTB hubs have a 65% thicker axle and larger 6903 bearings for the best possible durability.New labyrinth seals are designed to better keep out dirt and minimize frictional resistance, and enlarged ratchet pockets have been installed for better force distribution to prevent deformation over many years. Despite all this, Industry Nine managed to minimize the weight of the Hydra 2 hubs compared to its predecessor. With the innovative freehub, the engagement angle is reduced from 0.52° to just 0.41°, which is achieved thanks to 30 additional teeth. This reduces the resistance of the freehub by 60 %, and you can disassemble and maintain your hubs without special tools, which makes them so unique. Last but not least, the hubs are also approved for use in your e-bike for motors up to 65 Nm.
Rims
Advanced becomes Phase - Newmen provides a special rim for every area of application within this series. Whether cross-country, all-mountain or enduro, you will always receive an uncompromisingly customized model, but they all have one thing in common: Newmen's high quality.
The Phase Base front and rear or in combination with a Phase Strong rim on the rear wheel are the first choice for anyone who really wants to let it rip. They shine with low weight and first-class riding characteristics. The perfectly processed carbon fibers are extremely impact-resistant and give the rim incredible stability. This means that precise steering movements are possible at all times. A special production process makes reworking and painting unnecessary. This saves even more grams.
The very generous inner width of 30 mm, together with the slightly outward-positioned sidewall, gives the tire an optimally round shape, which is reflected in better grip and more comfort.Newmen has opted for a hookless rim flange, which has been specially reinforced to better withstand possible punctures. As a result, you can ride with less air pressure and achieve optimum tubeless compatibility.
Wheel construction at R2-Bike
Our wheels are assembled entirely by hand by our wheel builders. During the entire assembly process, great importance is attached to ensuring that not only the concentricity is correct, but also that the spoke tension is as even as possible. This special care allows us to give the first owner a lifetime guarantee against spoke breakage, as long as it was not caused by force.

You get a universal wheel bag for all common sizes included.
You will receive a spare spoke with nipple in all required spoke lengths so that you can repair the wheel quickly after an accident.
Within 2 years of purchase, you will receive a free initial inspection of the wheel, during which the resulting work is completely free of charge. Only shipping costs are incurred.
You get a crash replacement promise: If your wheel is damaged within 2 years of purchase due to force majeure, we will rebuild it once. We grant a 100% discount on all labor costs and only charge for the material.
