With this wheelset, you can really let rip even in difficult terrain. The indestructible Industry Nine hubs and the superbly crafted ENVE rims are forgiving of the odd riding mistake, while the well-balanced selection of components guarantees you a high level of reliability and a long service life.
The innovative "Mullet" design gives you the advantages of two wheel sizes in one bike. The 29" front wheel generates maximum grip and low rolling resistance, while the smaller rear wheel increases maneuverability and rear clearance and reduces weight.
Hubs
The Industry Nine Hydra Classic hubs are a real gem on any bike. Developed and produced in Asheville / North Carolina, they set themselves apart from the competition with many small technical refinements. With their externally sealed bearings and stable axles, they are optimally protected against environmental influences and are also ideally equipped for downhill use. Beveled spoke flanges help to reduce the forces on the sensitive spoke heads and thus prevent spoke breakage.
However, the pawl freewheel on the rear hub is revolutionary. It consists of a drive ring with 115 teeth and 6 staggered pawls. These are designed so that as soon as one of them engages, the others can also absorb torque shortly afterwards. This means that a single pawl only has to bear the force alone for a very short time. The big advantage of this system is the extremely short idle travel of 0.52°, which brings significant benefits in technical passages or when pedaling hard. In addition, the fine ratcheting leads to a unique noise level on the wheel.
The maintenance effort is also relatively low. You can disassemble and clean the hub without tools.
Rims
ENVE carbon rims are developed by ENVE in the USA and manufactured to the highest quality standards at the company's headquarters in Utah. ENVE's engineers have years of experience in the use of carbon in the field of cycling and know what requirements a top product like these carbon rims must meet. At ENVE, every effort is made to utilize the advantages of carbon and eliminate its disadvantages. Stiff and extremely light rims have been developed in which all fibers can run without interruption, which corresponds to the best possible utilization of the material thicknesses. This principle was perfected for the spoke holes, with continuous fiber strands forming the receptacle for the spoke nipples. Aluminum inserts, which are common in other carbon rims, can therefore be dispensed with during production. This reduces the weight and at the same time allows significantly higher spoke tensions, which in turn allow the construction of stiffer wheels.
Wheel construction at R2-Bike
Our wheels are assembled entirely by hand by our wheel builders. During the entire assembly process, great importance is attached to ensuring that not only the concentricity is correct, but also that the spoke tension is as even as possible. This special care allows us to offer a lifetime guarantee against spoke breakage as long as it is not caused by force.
