Hubs
At the center of the wheelset are the Pro 5 hubs from the English cult manufacturer from Barnoldswick. The experience gained from 30 years of designing and manufacturing high-quality drive elements has been incorporated into their development with the aim of improving proven technology in order to meet the demands of current and future bicycle technology.
The design of the rear hub differs significantly from its predecessor, with an enlarged body that generates more rigidity without increasing the weight. This is noticeable above all in a much more direct ride. At the same time, the diameter of the spoke flange has been increased, making it easier to build very stable wheels.
The highlight of the rear wheel hub is the new 6-pawl freehub system in offset design, which is characterized by the fact that three of the six pawls are always engaged when riding in order to distribute the load evenly. In addition, the freehub gearing has been increased from 44 (Pro 4) to 54 teeth, resulting in a total of 108 engagement points and a low free travel of just 3.33°. In addition, some material has been removed from the pawl springs, slightly reducing the spring force and lowering their resistance. Hope has thus achieved the right balance between smooth running and durability with the Pro 5.
The hub can withstand negative external influences for a long time, thanks to the high-quality anodization and the very well-sealed stainless steel industrial bearings. Should the ravages of time take their toll on the hub, it can be dismantled and serviced with little effort. It can also be easily converted to a different hub standard.
Rims
If you don't want to compromise, here is the perfect rim for your adventures. Light, stable and durable, there are no limits on the trail and your buddies will only see your rear wheel.
ENVE is breaking new ground with the M6 series. Different constructions on the front and rear wheels ensure specific characteristics and bring your full potential to the trail.
Particular attention has been paid to comfort. A new rim shape and an improved carbon laminate increase compliance. This allows the rim to adapt better to the surface and absorb shocks. This significantly prevents the rider from tiring prematurely.
The inner rim width has also been increased, allowing the use of very wide tires, which generate more grip and can also absorb bumps better.
The wide hookless bead technology ensures the best tubeless compatibility and high puncture protection. The special shape of the hookless rim flange distributes the occurring forces over a larger area and reduces the probability of punctures by 50 % compared to the previous rim. Lateral crushing is also much easier to absorb, which means that the rim is more forgiving of the occasional riding error.
The spoke holes are specially designed for the nipples supplied. This guarantees even tension and a very solid wheel. The Nyloc insert prevents the spokes from loosening on their own and significantly increases durability.
ENVE carbon rims are developed by ENVE in the USA and manufactured to the highest quality standards at the company's headquarters in Utah. ENVE's engineers have years of experience with the use of carbon in the field of cycling and know what requirements a top product such as these rims must meet. At ENVE, every effort is made to utilize the advantages of carbon and eliminate its disadvantages. Stiff and extremely light rims have been developed in which all fibers can run without interruption, which corresponds to the best possible utilization of the material thicknesses. This principle was perfected for the spoke holes, with continuous fiber strands forming the receptacle for the spoke nipples. Aluminum inserts, which are quite common in other carbon rims, can therefore be dispensed with during production. This reduces the weight and at the same time allows significantly higher spoke tensions, which in turn allow the construction of stiffer wheels.
Wheel construction at R2-Bike
Our wheels are assembled entirely by hand by our wheel builders. During the entire assembly process, great importance is attached to ensuring that not only the concentricity is correct, but also that the spoke tension is as even as possible. This special care allows us to give the first owner a lifetime guarantee against spoke breakage, as long as it was not caused by force.
