R2BIKE wheelset 29" AM | Industry Nine MTB 6-hole hubs | Duke Carbon rims
Application: All Mountain AM
With this wheelset, even racers can really let it rip. The indestructible Industry Nine hubs and the superbly crafted Duke rims are forgiving of the occasional riding error, while the well-balanced selection of components guarantees a high level of reliability and a long service life.
Hubs
Completely redesigned - the Hydra 2 hubs have been developed to withstand even the toughest conditions. Five years of further development and feedback from over 100,000 Hydra 1 hubs sold worldwide have gone into the Hydra 2.
Every Classic Mountain hub is manufactured from start to finish in Asheville, NC, at Industry Nine. From turning and milling the hub shell, axles and end caps, to wire EDMing A2 tool steel for the pawls and spider, to the in-house anodizing facility, every step of the design, engineering, manufacturing and assembly process is performed to the most exacting standards in the industry. Thanks to this complete production from a single source, consistent hub quality is always guaranteed.
The Hydra 2 Classic MTB hubs have a 65% thicker axle and larger 6903 bearings for the best possible durability.New labyrinth seals are designed to keep dirt out better and minimize frictional resistance, and enlarged ratchet pockets have been installed for better force distribution to prevent deformation over many years. Despite all this, Industry Nine managed to minimize the weight of the Hydra 2 hubs compared to its predecessor. With the innovative freehub, the engagement angle is reduced from 0.52° to just 0.41°, which is achieved thanks to 30 additional teeth. This reduces the resistance of the freehub by 60 %, and you can disassemble and maintain your hubs without special tools, which makes them so unique. Last but not least, the hubs are also approved for use in your e-bike for motors up to 65 Nm.
Rims
With the Crazy Jack SLS5, the Duke becomes a king. The French have once again succeeded in significantly improving their all-mountain rim compared to the previous version. A 32.5 mm wide rim with a weight of approx. 355 g (manufacturer's specification) is more than a direct challenge to the competition.
But how did they manage it this time? The use of the highest quality carbon fibers was a matter of course from the outset. Clever use of materials means that only as much is used as is really needed. No compromises were made in the choice of resin either. This has proven itself in aerospace technology, reduces weight and at the same time increases impact resistance. This means that there is no need for reworking or painting after production.
Nevertheless, despite all the optimization, durability must not fall by the wayside. Duke presses so-called ImpactGuard's, highly elastic energy-absorbing inserts, into the cavities on both sides of the rim, which can absorb mechanical impacts and thus contribute significantly to stability.
The new design, with the small hump on the inside of the rim, also absorbs high load peaks better without increasing the weight. In addition, the preformed spoke holes, the spoke cores, ensure a continuous structure of the carbon fibers. This means that subsequent drilling of these holes is not necessary.
The rims of the SLS5 series also have an asymmetrical rim profile, which enables a more even spoke angle. This optimization of the spoke angle has a number of advantages. The tension on both sides can be better aligned, which is beneficial to the durability of the spokes and the wheel as a whole. The normally direction-dependent lateral stiffness is also adjusted, making the wheel more stable.
The Crazy Jack SLS5 also follows Duke's own "6Ters" concept. The cross-section of the rims is different on the front and rear wheels, with the larger inner width at the front providing more grip and stiffness, while at the rear the focus is on impact resistance and comfort.
Wheel construction at R2-Bike
Our wheels are assembled entirely by hand by our wheel builders. During the entire assembly process, great importance is attached to ensuring that not only the concentricity is correct, but also that the spoke tension is as even as possible. This special care allows us to give the first owner a lifetime guarantee against spoke breakage, as long as it was not caused by force.
The following services are also included for first-time buyers:
You get a universal wheel bag for all common sizes included.
You will receive a spare spoke with nipple in all required spoke lengths so that you can repair the wheel quickly after an accident.
Within 2 years of purchase, you will receive a free initial inspection of the wheel, during which the resulting work is completely free of charge. There are only shipping costs.
You get a crash replacement promise: If your wheel is damaged due to force majeure within 2 years of purchase, we will rebuild it once. We grant a 100% discount on all labor costs and only charge for the material.
