Hubs
Three decades of experience in the development and production of hubs have left their mark, albeit a "very light" one.
Over the years, the head of development at NONPLUS COMPONENTS, Christian Jenny, has been able to accumulate an immense amount of specialist and practical knowledge, which led to the production of the company's first prototypes in 2016 after finding an investor.
In order to guarantee the precise production of the hubs, Frank Präzisionsteile GmbH, a company based in Murr, Baden-Württemberg, which is also the investor, took over production. A short time later, in 2018, NON+ was registered as a trademark. Since then, the wheels at one of the most innovative think tanks for bike components in Germany have not stood still. New concepts are constantly being developed and patents applied for in order to set new standards in the future.
The NONPLUS rear hub is a masterpiece of engineering and is unique due to its weight in combination with its approval for almost every application in cycling. The black anodized oversized hub body forms the heart of the hub, around which everything revolves. Two load-appropriately dimensioned bearings support the hub shell on a 17 mm axle, two further bearings support the freewheel and the micro-gap end caps keep dirt and water away from the inside of the hub. A brake rotor mount, which extends directly to the spoke flange, ensures optimum transmission of the braking forces. On the opposite side, the patented freewheel mechanism is concealed inside. The unique tapered toothing has a contact surface that is approx. 400 % larger than conventional spur gear toothing and therefore enables maximum power transmission with minimum wear. Together with the hard anodized surface, the special, very elaborately manufactured back of the tooth ensures low abrasion and thus additionally increases the service life. The 45-fold toothing results in a maximum free travel of 8°. This gives you immediate propulsion when you need it in difficult passages, for example, and prevents you from losing valuable time when sprinting to the finish.
Rims
The ENVE G23 rim is the ideal basis for gravel wheels. At just 330 grams, ENVE's lightest 700c tubeless rim ensures lightning-fast acceleration and light-footed climbing. The patent-pending wide hookless rim flanges prevent punctures and make the G23 robust and reliable enough for any road, gravel track or trail. As a tubeless carbon rim in 700c format with a generous 23 mm rim width, the G23 has been designed to fully meet the wishes and demands of ambitious cyclists who are at home on a wide variety of terrain in terms of performance and riding qualities.
ENVE carbon rims are developed by ENVE in the USA and manufactured to the highest quality standards at the company's headquarters in Utah. ENVE's engineers have years of experience with the use of carbon in the field of cycling and know what requirements a top product like these carbon rims must meet. At ENVE, every effort is made to utilize the advantages of carbon and eliminate its disadvantages. Stiff and extremely light rims have been developed in which all fibers can run without interruption, which corresponds to the best possible utilization of the material thicknesses. This principle was perfected for the spoke holes, with continuous fiber strands forming the receptacle for the spoke nipples. Aluminum inserts, which are common in other carbon rims, can therefore be dispensed with during production. This reduces the weight and at the same time allows significantly higher spoke tensions, which in turn allow the construction of stiffer wheels.
Wheel construction at R2-Bike
Our wheels are assembled entirely by hand by our wheel builders. During the entire assembly process, great importance is attached to ensuring that not only the concentricity is correct, but also that the spoke tension is as even as possible. This special care allows us to give the first owner a lifetime guarantee against spoke breakage, as long as it was not caused by force.
