Hubs
Three decades of experience in the development and production of hubs have left their mark, albeit a "very light" one.
Over the years, the head of development at NONPLUS COMPONENTS, Christian Jenny, has been able to accumulate an immense amount of specialist and practical knowledge, which led to the production of the company's first prototypes in 2016 after finding an investor.
In order to guarantee the precise production of the hubs, Frank Präzisionsteile GmbH, a company based in Murr, Baden-Württemberg, which is also the investor, took over production. A short time later, in 2018, NON+ was registered as a trademark. Since then, the wheels at one of the most innovative think tanks for bike components in Germany have not stood still. New concepts are constantly being developed and patents applied for in order to set new standards in the future.
The NONPLUS rear hub is a masterpiece of engineering and is unique due to its weight in combination with its approval for almost every application in cycling. The black anodized oversized hub body forms the heart of the hub, around which everything revolves. Two load-appropriately dimensioned bearings support the hub shell on a 17 mm axle, two further bearings support the freewheel and the micro-gap end caps keep dirt and water away from the inside of the hub. A brake rotor mount, which extends directly to the spoke flange, ensures optimum transmission of the braking forces. On the opposite side, the patented freewheel mechanism is concealed inside. The unique tapered toothing has a contact surface that is approx. 400 % larger than conventional spur gear toothing and therefore enables maximum power transmission with minimum wear. Together with the hard anodized surface, the special, very elaborately manufactured back of the tooth ensures low abrasion and thus additionally increases the service life. The 45-fold toothing results in a maximum free travel of 8°. This gives you immediate propulsion when you need it in difficult passages, for example, and prevents you from losing valuable time when sprinting to the finish.
Rims
With the Duke Baccara RX and WRX rims, you get even more choice of ultra-light carbon rims for your gravel bike. Five different rim heights from 27 to 56 millimetres give you all the options you need to choose between aerodynamic properties and low weight.The large inner widths of 25 mm (RX version) and 28 / 29 mm (WRX version) give wide gravel tires very good support at low air pressures. The hook profile of the rims ensures a secure fit of the tire. The low weight is achieved by optimizing the use of materials. Particularly stressed areas are reinforced, while material is saved in uncritical areas. In addition, the amount of resin used has been further reduced without sacrificing stability.
Thanks to the SLR2 production technology developed by Duke, there is no need to rework or paint the rims during the production process. This alone can save up to 10% in weight and achieve a very high surface quality. The use of highly modular carbon fibers also improves the inherent damping, which is particularly beneficial for riding comfort.
The rims are definitely top of the class in terms of load capacity. With a maximum system weight of 120 kg, you can take a little more luggage with you.
The rims have an asymmetrical rim profile, which enables a more even spoke angle. This optimization of the spoke angle has a number of advantages. The spoke tension on both sides can be better aligned, which is beneficial to the durability of the spokes and the wheel as a whole. The normally direction-dependent lateral stiffness is also adjusted, making the wheel more stable.
Wheel construction at R2-Bike
Our wheels are assembled entirely by hand by our wheel builders. During the entire assembly process, great importance is attached to ensuring that not only the concentricity is correct, but also that the spoke tension is as even as possible. This special care allows us to give the first owner a lifetime guarantee against spoke breakage, as long as it was not caused by force.
