PRINCETON CARBONWORKS wheelset 28" Road Grit 4540 Evolution | DT Swiss 180 hubs | Matte / Black
Behind Princeton Carbon Works are the founder Marty Crotty and the three co-founders Brad Werntz, Harrison Macris and Paul Daniels. Marty, a former college rower and Ironman triathlete, had the idea of designing his own original high-end aero carbon wheels. Together with his then acquaintance Brad Werntz, at the time a rower and student majoring in mechanical and aerospace engineering, they developed the first ideas for a revolutionary high-profile wheel in 2012. Also from rowing circles, they brought Harrison Macris, a mechanical engineering student from Boston, and marketing expert Paul Daniels on board. Since the market launch of the Wake 6560 wheelset in 2017, Princeton wheels have been causing a stir with their design and excellent test results. Another milestone in the company's history is the partnership with the Ineos-Grenadiers professional team, which is known to choose its equipment exclusively from a performance perspective and has now achieved numerous World Tour victories on Princeton Carbon Wheels.
The Grit 4540 was developed from scratch with the aim of fulfilling all expectations of a high-end all-road wheelset. The result is an extremely stiff and easy-to-accelerate wheelset that is up to the challenges of cyclocross and gravel use. This was achieved, among other things, by newly designed, reinforced nipple seats. In order to achieve the low rim weight of just 415 grams, the material thickness was reduced in less stressed areas of the rim. The rim shape is based on the findings of the latest Wake 6560 Aero wheels. This ensures outstanding crosswind stability and maximum aerodynamic efficiency for a wheelset with a profile height of up to 45 millimetres. Thanks to the holeless tubeless rim bed, tubeless tires or folding tires with tubes can be run without rim tape. The absence of holes has also allowed the rim bed to be made thinner and lighter, while still providing greater rigidity in the rim compared to a classic rim bed.For the greatest possible safety under all conditions, Princeton continues to rely on rims with hooks, which means that the rims can be used without tire pressure restrictions and the maximum permitted values of the tire manufacturers can be used. The wheels are spoked with Sapim CX-Ray bladed spokes and high-end DT-Swiss 180 EXP hubs with ceramic bearings.
