New name, same passion: the still young Berg brand becomes PORTE. The founders started the brand with a simple mission. They wanted to develop the best possible lightweight products for ambitious MTB marathon and cross-country riders at an affordable price. In order to be equipped for tough racing conditions, no compromises were made in terms of durability when developing the PORTE components. Behind the brand is a small team of dedicated mountain bikers, engineers and bike mechanics from Belgium.
The PORTE Rathe wheelset plays in the absolute top league of lightweight wheels for XC use.The wheels are built around the in-house PORTE Ixion R hub pair, which, with a total weight of just under 300 grams, forms a perfect starting point. Visually, the aluminum hubs impress with their elegant straight-pull design and white laser-engraved PORTE logo. But the inner values of the hubs are also impressive. The SKF bearings used ensure long durability and low frictional resistance. A toothed pulley freewheel with 45 indexing points per wheel revolution guarantees instantaneous acceleration and a fast response in technically demanding passages. PORTE installs 6 toothed pulley springs for even power transmission. In addition to the built-in XD freehub body, a Shimano Micro Spline compatible freehub body is also available as an option. If the hubs need servicing, they can be dismantled in just a few steps without the need for special tools.
The super-light Rathe 30 carbon rims rotate around the hubs. Their combination of an above-average inner width of 30 millimetres and a weight of only 290 grams is extremely light and yet suitable for a rider weight of up to 100 kilograms. In practice, this results in wheels that are extremely easy to accelerate and tires that run very stably, even at very low air pressures. In addition, the large inner width makes it possible to run tires up to 2.7" wide. The tubeless inner profile ensures a secure fit of the tire on the hookless rim. The low weight of the handmade rims was achieved thanks to the relatively low profile height of just 21 millimetres. The asymmetrical spoke holes with an offset of 2 millimetres provide the necessary rigidity in the wheel. A reinforced rim bed provides secure support for the spoke nipples and makes the wheels more stable.
The wheels are laced with Sapim CX-Ray bladed spokes at PORTE in Belgium.
In order to guarantee the safety of their components, all PORTE components have undergone extensive tests according to ISO standards in Germany in addition to intensive test rides. In order to guarantee the high quality standards in the long term, the tests are repeated for different product batches.
In addition to the 2-year warranty, PORTE offers a 3-year crash replacement with a 40% discount on all components.
