Do you want to be flexible and ride your favorite trails at night? But the batteries on your lights are not charged again? Then we recommend this wheelset. A high-quality SON hub dynamo rotates in the front wheel and reliably supplies the lighting system with energy.
Of course, the innovative Pi Rope textile spokes, which were developed in collaboration with Chemnitz University of Technology, are also used here. These consist of braided Vectran synthetic fibers, are extremely robust, resistant to ageing and weathering and have better mechanical properties than their steel counterparts. The tensile strength and damping are many times higher, but the weight of the fibers is five times lower. These are ideal conditions for a very light, yet durable wheel, as the rotating masses in the important outer areas are minimized and the flexibility of the Vectran textile spokes prevents permanent plastic deformation at high load peaks.
Thanks to the black PI PROTECT coating of the Vectran yarn before the braiding process, the properties of the textile spokes are improved. The treated surface not only looks good, it also offers better UV protection and reduces the influence of negative weather conditions.
In addition, the abrasion resistance against external damage, such as that caused by stones and branches on the trail, is increased. Any mechanical loads that occur are better absorbed and ensure greater durability. The resulting increase in stiffness is particularly noticeable when cornering. Another plus, the processing of the textile spoke, has been further optimized in terms of quality.
The Duke World Runner X 25 rim serves as the basis. In contrast to its predecessor, its inner width has increased to a modern 24.8 mm, which means that even wide gravel tires are perfectly and safely supported. It is made from a high-quality aluminium alloy and boasts a clean finish and low weight.Of course, this rim is also designed for tubeless use in order to reduce the susceptibility to punctures. It is also equipped with an asymmetrical rim profile, which enables a more even spoke angle. This optimization has various advantages. The tension of the spokes can be better aligned on both sides, which is beneficial to their durability and the wheel as a whole. The normally direction-dependent lateral stiffness is also reduced, making the wheel more stable.
Pi Rope make no compromises and install what is probably the best hub dynamo on the market in the front wheel. The SON 29 X is the ideal choice for this gravel wheelset due to its small dimensions. It looks inconspicuous and is aerodynamic due to its narrow design, but delivers full performance even at low speeds. Thanks to the barely noticeable rolling resistance, you don't have to exert any additional force and are still very comfortable on the road.
A FADE Road hub rotates at the rear. This was specially developed for Pi Rope in cooperation with the well-known wheel and component manufacturer NEWMEN in order to accommodate the special ends of the textile spokes. Three pawls with 36 ratchets work together, which guarantees immediate propulsion and low free travel. The high-quality, durable bearings have been pressed in precisely and without tension, so that the often tedious adjustment of the axial bearing play is completely eliminated. Thanks to the slim shape in the middle section, the hub saves weight and is also more aerodynamic.
