Behind the young company One-K are 3 bicycle enthusiasts and inventors who have pooled their expertise and passion to develop the lightest bicycle spokes in the world. The One-K founders developed the revolutionary approach and production process at the Leibniz Institute for Composite Materials at the RPTU in Kaiserslautern. One-K now produces in its own halls in Freinsheim in the Palatinate, demonstrating that innovative high-end wheels can also be produced economically in Germany.
With a weight saving of up to 60 percent compared to premium steel spokes, without having to compromise on performance and durability, One-K fiber spokes allow disc brake wheels to be built weighing less than 1000 grams. The rims are from the range of French manufacturer Duke, who have been impressing customers for years with their extremely light and robust carbon rims with modern rim profiles. The hub set used is a version specially adapted for the One-K fiber spokes from the German lightweight construction specialist Nonplus. To ensure maximum safety and quality, the wheels are assembled by hand and externally certified. Thanks to their modular design and a crash replacement guarantee, you are also on the safe side in the event of damage.
One-K spoke star
One-K's patented manufacturing process allows several connected spokes to be produced from a single continuous fiber tape. At the end of each spoke, the tape is formed into small loops, which are used to connect the spokes to the rim with special nipples. In addition to saving weight, the seamless fiber tape of the spoke stars eliminates the need for sensitive, open spoke ends. The spokes are made of fibers with extremely high tensile strength and stiffness. They are embedded in an epoxy matrix to provide the necessary resistance to impacts and cuts. Each spoke star consists of 6 connected spokes. In addition to the high durability, the closed spoke stars enable the best possible power transmission from the hub to the rim.
Construction
Each wheel consists of 4 spoke spokes (2 per wheel side), which are rotated 180° to each other. The spokes are connected to the rim via high-strength titanium nipples, which are preloaded from the rim side using bolts with ball heads. The ball heads have the same shape as conventional spoke nipples. This ensures tension-free alignment of the spokes and compatibility with all standard rims with the right number of holes.
NONPLUS hubs
The spoke spiders are attached to small pins on the specially adapted Nonplus hubs. The spokes support each other and are additionally secured by a collar on the spigots. The large hub flange diameters ensure optimum power transmission when pedaling. Weighing just 223 grams, the hub set is one of the lightest on the market. The toothed pulley freehub with 45 engagement points per wheel revolution ensures a very direct power connection.
Duke Baccara 36 Ultra rims
Summit climbers will be delighted with this lightweight rim. Duke has broken all limits with this rim. A weight of less than 300 grams with a rim height of 36 millimeters is unrivalled. Nevertheless, safety has not been spared, as it is approved for a system weight of 95 kilograms.
The use of highly modular carbon fibers improves the inherent damping of the rims, which has a positive effect on riding comfort. The rim profile enables unrestricted tubeless use and brings measurable aerodynamic advantages.With a rim width of 21 millimetres, wide road bike tires are well shaped and aerodynamically integrated into the rim profile. The asymmetrically arranged spoke holes ensure an optimal angle of the One-K spoke stars and thus increase the stiffness and durability of the wheels.
