The people at Kogel Bearings believe that high quality ceramic bearings are the measure of things for ball bearings in bicycles.
Silicon nitride has a number of material properties that make it almost perfect for bicycle storage.
The material is extremely hard, wear-resistant, can be formed into perfectly round balls with minimal tolerances and can be polished smoother than any metal. In addition, the material does not rust or corrode in any other way.
The bearing rings are made of hardened steel and polished. This is necessary to create a perfect, smooth running surface for the ceramic balls.
Kogel Bearings offers two different types of gaskets for different applications: Road Seals, a minimal contact gasket designed to run as lightly as possible.
The Cross Seals, on the other hand, are designed to provide extra protection against external weather conditions: dust, water and mud. It is great for CX, MTB or road bike use when it comes to maximum durability.
Kogel Bearings is aware that ceramic bearings have a bad reputation for durability. This is mostly due to the suboptimal quality of the stock being sold as a high one.
A bearing must be designed and manufactured in a balanced way: the hardness of the balls requires to be combined with equally smooth and hard bearing tracks. The bearing cage, seals and greases must be coordinated to work perfectly.
If one of the components does not fit optimally, it reduces the performance of the entire bearing. The result is increased resistance, shortened life or even total failure of the bearing.
If something breaks down in the first year, Kogel will repair or replace the product without many questions about jobs.
After the first year, a service must be provided. If the bearing is serviced by a qualified mechanic, ie a cleaning, relubrication and replacement of the seals,
the warranty is extended for another year.
This bottom bracket allows the installation of cranks with SRAM DUB shaft in frames that have a PF30 bottom bracket shell. The outward displacement of the bearings significantly increases the system rigidity compared to solutions with many spacers.
