Install, drive and just forget. Hope's components have always been synonymous with durability and robustness. Even the latest generation of their wheels is in no way inferior. You can really let it rip with them and even occasional driving mistakes will be forgiven.
Especially the RD40 rims contribute to the indestructibility. Made from high-quality UD carbon fibers in a monocoque construction, they can accommodate tires with a width of up to 40 mm thanks to their large internal width of 19 mm. This brings additional grip and comfort. The 40 mm high flank generates excellent aerodynamics and ensures a striking look. In order to be able to withstand heavy punctures without damage, the rim flange has been specially reinforced. And of course the RD40 can be converted for tubeless use. A set of rim tape and valve is already included in the scope of delivery.
The Pro 5 hubs from the English cult manufacturer from Barnoldswick rotate in the center. The experience of 30 years of designing and manufacturing high-quality drive elements flowed into their development with the aim of improving proven technology in order to meet the demands of current and future bicycle technology.
The design of the rear wheel hub differs significantly from the previous model. Their enlarged body generates more rigidity without increasing the weight. This is particularly noticeable in a much more direct driving behavior. At the same time, the diameter of the spoke flange increased. This simplifies the construction of very stable wheels.
The highlight of the rear wheel hub is the new 6-pawl freewheel system in offset design. This is characterized by the fact that three of the six pawls are always engaged when driving in order to distribute the load evenly. In addition, the freewheel toothing has been increased from 44 (Pro 4) to 54 teeth, resulting in a total of 108 locking points and a low idle travel of just 3.33°. In addition, some material has been removed from the springs of the pawls, which slightly reduces the spring force and reduces their resistance. With the Pro 5, Hope creates the right balance between smooth running and durability.
Typical for Hope is the perfect workmanship. The hub can withstand negative external influences for a long time, which is also thanks to the high-quality anodizing and the very well sealed stainless steel industrial bearings. Should the ravages of time gnaw at it at some point, it can be disassembled and serviced without much effort. In addition, conversion to a different hub standard is possible without any problems.
The connection between rim and hub is taken over by Sapim's CX-Ray spokes. With these, the Belgians have succeeded in developing an extraordinary spoke. In addition to its low weight, it has exceptional resilience and flexibility. This also results in the large intended use . It doesn't matter whether you are a racing cyclist or a mountain biker, everyone benefits from these positive characteristics. In addition, the flattened center section ensures excellent aerodynamics. The high material quality enables the construction of stable wheels and guarantees a long service life.
