Introduced with the revolutionary Fulcrum Sharq 42 Allroad wheelset, the distinctive 2-Wave rim profile is now also used in the more affordable Soniq 42 wheelset.
The unique, patent-pending rim shape is the result of an experimental development process in which the interactions with the wheels were analyzed in a wide variety of wind conditions. The result is the characteristic 2-wave rim shape with a regular symmetrical wave on the rim nose, which merges into an asymmetrical wave on the flanks. The profile height varies between 42 and 47 millimeters from the lowest to the highest wave section. With this design, Fulcrum achieves an optimum balance between low air resistance and stable handling in crosswinds. Compared to a conventional profile with the same height, an improvement in crosswind stability of 21 percent was achieved in the wind tunnel at angles of attack between 0° and 10° and even up to 30 percent at angles of attack between 10° and 20°.
With an inner rim width of 25 millimetres and an outer width of 29.8 millimetres, the Soniq 42 is the perfect choice for all road, all-road and gravel tires from 29 millimetres wide. The rims have a mini-hook for a secure fit with tubeless and tube-type tires. Thanks to the closed, holeless rim bed, no tape is required for tubeless mounting.

2:1 Two-to-One™ spoking pattern
This type of spoking greatly increases the rigidity of the wheel. Particularly when pedalling hard, there can be a lot of twisting at the rear, which costs you valuable energy. This is why double the number of spokes is used on the freehub side to better absorb and distribute the forces.

Undrilled rim bed - undrilled rim bed
By not drilling holes for the spoke nipples in the rim bed, the material retains its inner structure and can therefore be subjected to higher loads. This allows higher spoke tensions, which makes the wheel stiffer overall and allows you to accelerate faster.
Another advantage is better tubeless compatibility. Because the air cannot escape inwards through the closed base, the use of rim tape is unnecessary.

MoMag™ - magnetic nipple installation system
With the patented MoMag™ system, threading the spoke nipples is easy despite the closed rim base. They are inserted into the valve opening and guided into place using a magnet. This makes spoking and centering possible as usual.
