EXTRALITE wheelset 29" CarboCamber 330 | HyperBoost3 F + HyperBoost3 R hubs
More than a decade ago, Extralite broke new ground with the launch of the ultra-light Carbocamber wheelset with hookless carbon rims. With the current CarboCamber 330 wheelsets, Extralite is once again taking a run at the top spot among high-end cross-country wheelsets. At 1060 grams, the weight of the CarboCamber 330 has remained at the extremely low level of the previous version. However, the rims have become significantly wider with an inner width of 30 millimetres and offer modern cross-country tires up to 2.4" width a very good shape and support at low air pressures. This makes the CarboCamber 330 even faster and more effective on the trail and in racing. The extremely low weight of the rims was achieved through an improved carbon layer structure with the latest high-end Toray carbon fibers. Each nipple seat is reinforced for the necessary durability. In addition, the asymmetrical rim design with a 3 millimeter offset ensures a more balanced spoke tension and sufficient stiffness for riders weighing up to 90 kg (including luggage)
The wheelset is laced with HyperLite blade spokes made of stainless steel and lightweight aluminum nipples. The spokes have an extremely durable black coating. Thanks to the butting, they are not only very light but also more elastic than conventional spokes. The greater flexibility allows the forces occurring under load to be distributed more evenly across the wheel via more spokes, thus reducing the force exerted on individual components. The durability of the wheel therefore benefits directly.
The Extralite HyperBoost 3 hubs are at the center of the wheel. They have highly optimized, extremely lightweight hub bodies with straight-pull hub flanges. The use of straight spokes enables a significantly better flow of force. Potential weak points such as the bending of classic J-bend spokes and cross-loaded spoke holes in the hub are completely avoided! Only high-quality Enduro Bearings industrial bearings are used, whose preload is perfectly adjusted ex works. The hubs have a microtuner that can be used to adjust the preload, which is rarely necessary. However, the biggest highlight is the freehub mechanism. This always transmits the torque via finely serrated spur teeth. In order to meet the lightweight construction target, this toothing is partially integrated into the freehub body and is made entirely of aluminum.
