ENVE Wheelset 28" SES 4.5 Pro | ENVE Innerdrive Pro Straightpull Center Lock Hubs | White Decals
In the Tour de France 2025, Tadej Pogačar, supported by his UAE Team Emirates, dominated almost all the decisive stages, also thanks to the new SES 4.5 Pro wheels from ENVE. With this setup, he triumphed on stage 12 in the Pyrenees, including the tough mountain finish at Hautacam, where he won with a commanding lead of over two minutes. Thanks to his consistent performance in the mountains, he ultimately secured his fourth overall victory in the Tour de France, with four stage wins and 14 days in the yellow jersey. And he did so with a wheelset that Pogačar trusted on both the highest passes and the flat sprint stages: ENVE SES 4.5 Pro - top-class performance with a world-famous winning tradition.
Rims ENVE SES 4.5 Pro
The main objective in the development of the SES 4.5 Pro was to reduce weight. The UAE Team Emirates wanted a wheelset with the core characteristics of the victorious SES 4.5, but considerably lighter, in order to push the Colnago racing bikes further towards the UCI minimum weight. ENVE has achieved this with the SES 4.5 Pro by refining the rim design: less material, but without compromising on internal volume, stability and aerodynamics. The rim cross-section has also been slightly narrowed to save additional weight. This also resulted in a small hook in the inner wall, which promises wider tire compatibility and more safety reserves at high air pressures. Despite ENVE's mini-hooked design, it is still a hookless rim, with all its advantages: greater stability thanks to uniform wall thickness, improved aerodynamics thanks to the wider shape and a secure fit of modern tubeless tires even at low air pressure. The system tuning to tire widths also contributes to weight reduction: 30 mm for flat stages and 28 mm for mountain stages, which together with the slightly narrower rim saves even more grams. The focus was always on the overall system weight, which means that, depending on the setup, savings of up to 200 grams per wheelset are possible compared to the classic SES 4.5.
In terms of rim height, ENVE continues to rely on asymmetrical dimensions in order to fully exploit the aerodynamic advantages of this wind tunnel-tested concept: slightly lower at the front (49 mm) for less susceptibility to crosswinds and better handling, slightly higher at the rear (55 mm) for maximum aero efficiency, as the rear wheel is less affected by the wind.
Hubs ENVE Innerdrive Pro
With the Innerdrive Pro, ENVE takes its proven hub technology to the next level. Based on the Innerdrive Premium hubs, which have already been successfully racing in the peloton for several Grand Tour events, the Pro hub set has been equipped with exactly the upgrades that are crucial for elite riders like Tadej Pogačar in the battle for overall victory. These include a smooth-running 40-tooth ratchet mechanism with a light-action spring, an ultra-light hub shell and the new ENVE Pro ceramic bearings. In order to master the multitude of friction-relevant factors, ENVE has developed its own high-end ceramic bearings with a leading manufacturer. The ENVE Pro Ceramic Bearings combine precise grade 5 ceramic balls with hardened stainless steel races and polyamide bearing cages, which improve durability and corrosion protection while reducing rolling resistance. A low-contact seal on the outside provides reliable protection against dirt, while a non-contact seal on the inside additionally reduces friction. The result is bearings that feel extremely smooth-running and impress even in long-term use under the toughest racing conditions. Thanks to the targeted optimizations, the Pro hub set is a whole 60 grams lighter than the Premium version and impresses with a total weight of just 281 grams.
Spokes ALPINA Ultralite Aero R5
The Alpina Ultralite Aero R5 spokes are among the most modern spokes in the high-performance segment. They are triple butted (2.0 / 1.5 / 2.0 mm), offering maximum stability at the ends and are ultra-light and aerodynamically optimized in the middle section. Made from high-quality stainless steel (AISI 302), they combine low weight with high tensile strength and corrosion resistance. With a weight of just 4.3 grams per spoke, they are among the lightest aero spokes on the market - and with a tensile strength of over 1,600 N/mm². Compared to the Sapim CX-Ray spokes used on the classic SES 4.5, the Ultralite Aero R5 spokes are a further 0.4 grams lighter per spoke, which contributes significantly to the weight reduction of the SES 4.5 Pro. They are complemented by Alpina Nylock Alloy nipples, which ensure a secure, durable connection between spoke and rim and reliably prevent them from coming loose on their own.
Like all carbon rims from ENVE, the SES 4.5 Pro is also produced in the USA, where it is laminated, cured and finished by hand. Individual components such as spokes and parts of the hubs are manufactured in Europe. In Ogden, Utah, the wheels are assembled by hand with the utmost precision.

Note: The ENVE SES 4.5 are only compatible with tubeless and tubeless-ready tires that are also approved for hookless rim profiles. You can find a selection of tire models tested and recommended by ENVE here. If a tire you want to use is not listed, this does not mean that it is incompatible. Rather, it has not yet been tested by ENVE.
