When gravel speed becomes a race decision, every detail counts. The ENVE G SES 4.5 Pro was developed precisely for this new generation of gravel racing: high average speeds, wide tires, constantly changing track conditions and the need to be as efficient as possible over long distances.
Instead of just being robust, this wheelset brings real aero performance to demanding terrain. The rim shape follows the SES philosophy of the successful ENVE road bike wheels and is specially designed for modern gravel tires. 30 mm inner width, 49 mm rim height at the front and 55 mm at the rear create a balanced combination of speed, control and low weight.
The G SES 4.5 Pro is particularly strong where a course demands everything: fast gravel passages, short climbs, technical sections and long speed straights. Aerodynamically designed and gravel-specific, the rim is optimized for tire widths from 44 to 52 mm and thus offers plenty of volume for traction, comfort and safety on rough surfaces.
The ENVE Innerdrive Pro hubs provide additional efficiency. With a lightweight hub shell, PRO ceramic bearings and a weight-optimized 40-tooth ratchet system, the wheelset is designed for maximum performance. The result is a gravel wheelset for riders who not only want to get there, but also want to make up time on every kilometer.
ENVE G SES 4.5 Pro rims
Since ENVE's first gravel-specific wheel line in 2018, the rules of the game in gravel racing have changed. Compliance, durability and high protection against punctures remain important fundamentals, but aerodynamics are now a decisive factor in performance-oriented racing. Developed from ENVE's experience of winning the Gravel World Championships and the UCI World Gravel Series, the G SES 4.5 Pro rim combines robust gravel characteristics with efficiency designed for speed.
With an inner width of 30 mm, the rim is specifically designed for modern tire widths between 44 and 52 mm. This creates a harmonious transition between tire and rim, which optimizes the air flow and at the same time supports traction, comfort and safety on demanding surfaces. Control remains a key issue even on hard impacts. The Wide Hookless Bead construction uses a wide, blunt rim edge to distribute impact forces over a larger area and reduce the risk of punctures.
Different rim heights at the front and rear are part of the SES principle: 49 mm at the front, 55 mm at the rear. While the lower front rim calms handling in crosswinds and improves control in technical terrain, the higher rear rim supports more efficient power transmission and unlocks additional aero advantages at high speeds. This results in a distinct performance character with low energy loss and high riding dynamics in uncompromising racing use.
ENVE Innerdrive Pro hubs
With the Innerdrive Pro, ENVE takes its proven hub technology to the next level. Based on the Innerdrive Premium hubs, the Pro hub set has been equipped with exactly the upgrades that are crucial for elite riders like Alexey Vermeulen in uncompromising gravel racing.
These include a smooth-running 40-tooth ratchet mechanism with a light-action spring, an ultra-light hub body and the new ENVE Pro ceramic bearings. In order to master the multitude of friction-relevant factors, ENVE has developed its own high-end ceramic bearing with a leading manufacturer.
The ENVE Pro Ceramic Bearings combine precise grade 5 ceramic balls with hardened stainless steel races and polyamide bearing cages, which improve durability and corrosion protection while reducing rolling resistance. A low-contact seal on the outside provides reliable protection against dirt, while a non-contact seal on the inside additionally reduces friction.
The result is bearings that feel extremely smooth-running and impress even in long-term use under the toughest racing conditions. Thanks to the targeted optimizations, the Pro hub set is a whole 60 grams lighter than the Premium version and impresses with a total weight of just 281 grams.
Spokes ALPINA Ultralite Aero R5
The Alpina Ultralite Aero R5 spokes are among the most modern spokes in the high-performance segment. They are triple butted (2.0 / 1.5 / 2.0 mm), offering maximum stability at the ends and are ultra-light and aerodynamically optimized in the middle section. Made from high-quality stainless steel (AISI 302), they combine low weight with high tensile strength and corrosion resistance. With a weight of just 4.3 grams per spoke, they are among the lightest aero spokes on the market - and with a tensile strength of over 1,600 N/mm². Compared to the Sapim CX-Ray spokes used on the classic SES 4.5, the Ultralite Aero R5 spokes are a further 0.4 grams lighter per spoke, which contributes significantly to the weight optimization of the SES 4.5 Pro. They are complemented by Alpina Nylock Alloy nipples, which ensure a secure, durable connection between spoke and rim and reliably prevent them from coming loose on their own.
Like all carbon rims from ENVE, the G SES 4.5 Pro is also produced in the USA, where it is laminated, cured and finished by hand. Individual components such as spokes and parts of the hubs are manufactured in Europe. In Ogden, Utah, the wheels are then assembled by hand with the utmost precision.
