Track cyclists, fixie riders and classic fans are offered the ideal basis with this DT Swiss rear wheel. Aero aluminum rims, proven 370 Classic hubs and streamlined Aerolite spokes are the perfect mix to really pick up the pace. But beware, deceleration is only provided by pedalling. There are no other braking options. The rear wheel is therefore only for absolute experts.
However, the typically high manufacturing quality of the Swiss guarantees them the best functionality and a long service life.
30 mm Aero aluminum rim
The high-quality aluminum rim with its 30 mm high sidewall reduces braking air turbulence to a minimum. Its shape was developed according to the DT Swiss AERO+ concept and shows its advantages especially in crosswinds. Air currents hitting at an angle create a sailing effect, which gives you additional propulsion and allows you to save power. The internal nipples also increase aerodynamics and give the wheel a clean look.
The inner width of 20 mm is just right for track cyclists, allowing narrow tires to be used with high air pressure, which reduces rolling resistance to a minimum. Nevertheless, the modern rim is of course also designed for tubeless systems, which allows the air pressure to be lowered and improves comfort and grip, especially when riding on the road.
The workmanship is of a high standard. The rim ends are joined together using the sleeve-joint method. In this process, a molded part is pressed evenly into both ends of the rim profile and the rim is joined together. In addition, the shot-peened surface largely resists stone chips, so that it appears as good as new even after many rides.
DT Swiss 370 Spline hub
At the center is the proven DT Swiss 370 hub in the classic J-bend design. Its high flanges provide stiffness and ensure direct steering characteristics as well as excellent aerodynamics. The smooth-running and perfectly sealed bearings guarantee a long service life and low maintenance.
Thanks to the fixed gear design, the hub has no freewheel and can therefore be pedaled forwards as well as backwards or braked. Standard screw-on single sprockets can be mounted on the thread. The external circlip prevents unintentional loosening.
DT Swiss Aerolite spokes with Pro Lock nipples
The DT Aerolite spokes also ensure weight savings and support the good aerodynamics of the wheel thanks to their blade shape. The middle section was flattened using the cold forging process and therefore has a particularly high material strength.
In the Pro Lock process, a patented two-component adhesive is injected into the nipple thread and enables the construction of extremely durable wheels. As soon as the nipples are screwed in, the adhesive is activated and hardens completely at room temperature after approx. 6 - 7 hours. Repeated re-centering is still possible without any problems, although the adhesive strength decreases slightly each time.
