DT SWISS front wheel ERC 1100 DICUT Disc Brake 35 mm Carbon Clincher
With the first generation of ERC wheels for long-distance use, DT-Swiss set the benchmark for aerodynamically efficient wheels with high crosswind stability. In the second generation, these parameters were significantly improved and riding stability was raised to a new level. The aerodynamics experts from Swiss-Side were also brought on board for the development of the current generation. With over 50 years of experience in Formula 1, Swiss Side has also been producing extremely aerodynamically sophisticated wheels using state-of-the-art production techniques for several years. In contrast to the classic approach, the development process not only took into account rotational air resistance and air resistance while riding, but also extended the criteria to build the best possible, modern aero wheels. This AERO+ approach included ride comfort, rolling resistance, grip, handling and the relationship between aero performance and weight.
New rim shape
The newly designed rims not only impress with their lower air resistance and better handling, the dimensions of the rims have also been significantly changed. With an increased inner width of 22 millimetres, they offer a better shape for wide road bike tires and allow lower air pressures to be used without the tire becoming unstable. This increases both grip and riding comfort. In addition, the larger inner width helps you to reduce rolling resistance because a tire rolls more easily on a wider rim at the same air pressure. In contrast to many competitors, DT-Swiss continues to rely on a hooked rim. Compared to a hookless profile, the risk of a tire coming off is significantly lower and you are not restricted in your choice of tire. The rims are optimized for a tire width of 28 millimetres. For the rear wheel, where aerodynamics play a less decisive role, DT-Swiss recommends fitting a 30 millimeter tire for maximum comfort.
Newly developed spokes
Already during the development of the first generation of ERC wheels, DT Swiss recognized great potential in the optimization of rotational drag. With the development of the new Aerolite II, this realization was taken into account. Compared to the previous version, the Aerolite II has become 35% wider and 23% thinner. The flat forging process of the spokes means that the steel is more compressed, resulting in a higher tensile strength. In addition, the aerodynamically optimized straight-pull T-head suspension of the spokes and internal nipples ensure less rotational and translational resistance.
DICUT 180 hubs
At the center of the wheels is the latest generation of 180 DICUT hubs with DT Swiss EXP technology. Equipped with high-quality SINC ceramic bearings, they help to save a watt or two. In addition to a weight reduction compared to the previous version, the hubs have also become stiffer and offer aerodynamically optimized straightpull hub flanges and hub bodies. Thanks to the use of elaborate seals and bearing sizes adapted to the loads, the hubs do not require any adjustment of the bearing play.
Note:
A Center Lock lockring with external teeth is required for correct brake rotor mounting. DT Swiss recommends the SM-HB20 from Shimano.
