The Bike Ahead Biturbo Aero wheelset with disc rear wheel combines aerodynamics, lightweight construction and riding performance in a special way. Specially developed for triathlon and time trial bikes, it can give you the decisive seconds in the battle against the clock.
Thanks to its patented design, the Biturbo disc wheel clearly stands out from conventional disc wheels. The outer panels do not take on a load-bearing role and can therefore be made extremely light. Another advantage is that the panels can be repaired or replaced in the event of damage.The load-bearing six-spoke structure underneath, on the other hand, is fully designed for maximum performance and combines the low weight and rigidity that we are accustomed to from the established Biturbo wheels. Thanks to their extremely flat and symmetrical shape, the panels deliver outstanding aerodynamic values, as confirmed by wind tunnel tests. The slightly concave geometry also ensures that modern rear derailleurs can be accommodated without any problems. The hooked rim has an outer width of 30 millimetres and an inner width of 23 millimetres and has been optimized for tire widths of 28 and 30 millimetres. The high-quality hubs, which were developed together with DT Swiss and are based on their proven 240 model, also contribute to the perfect performance. Their smooth running, durability and functionality are legendary and the Ratchet-EXP toothed pulley freehub guarantees you undisturbed propulsion.
Thanks to a generously dimensioned valve hole opening with a removable carbon cover, pumping up the tire is made considerably easier. The Biturbo Disc is manufactured in the Bike-Ahead factory in Würzburg to the highest quality standards.
The second generation of the Biturbo AERO 6-Spoke wheel is used as the front wheel. The shape of the rim in particular has been modified, and the redesign allows it to show its advantages especially in crosswinds. Air currents hitting the wheel at an angle create a sailing effect, which gives you additional propulsion and allows you to save a significant amount of power. In contrast to the previous model, at 45 km/h and a 10 degree angle of attack you have to produce a noticeable 7 watts less power.Wind tunnel tests in the renowned Bike Engineering laboratory confirm these results. Bike Ahead has also succeeded in increasing stability in sideways winds so that you can concentrate fully on your speed and don't have to constantly compensate with steering movements. Another safety factor that was very important to the developers.
Thanks to the increased inner width of 23 mm, even large-volume tires are perfectly supported, which prevents them from buckling in fast bends and ensures greater riding stability and better damping capacity. In addition, the rim is also designed for tubeless systems without rim tape thanks to its special, bore-free design, which allows you to ride with lower air pressure and improves comfort and puncture resistance.
It goes without saying that the workmanship is of the highest standard. Sophisticated manufacturing technology makes painting superfluous. This is very pleasing when you look at the scales. Nevertheless, the surface is sealed using an elaborate finishing process and is therefore highly resistant to scratches, ensuring that the wheels look like they did on the first day, even after many kilometers. The low weight of 630 grams stands for itself, but does not reflect the particularly favorable mass distribution of this wheelset. As with all other monocoque wheels from Bike Ahead, due to the non-existent tensile load of conventional spokes, they can design the construction in such a way that the rim is very light and the rotating masses are in the center of the wheel. This is a great advantage when accelerating quickly.
