ZIPP rear wheel 28" 353 NSW Carbon Clincher | Tubeless | Center Lock | 12x142 mm thru axle | SRAM XDR freewheel body
Lighter, wider and faster - that's how you could describe the latest creation from the aerodynamics experts at Indianapolis-based Zipp. In addition, the intended use of the 45 millimeter high 353 NSW has become even wider compared to the classic 303 wheel series with the same rim height. With an inner rim width of 25 millimeters, which is extreme for racing bikes, the Americans are breaking new ground. As found out in Zipp's in-house "The Nest" development center, 28 millimeter wide road tubeless tires with low air pressure roll significantly better than comparable 25 millimeter tires. Especially in poor road conditions, wide all-road tires can demonstrate their advantages in terms of rolling resistance and comfort. Due to the large inner rim width, the rims not only offer wider tires optimal support at low air pressures, they also integrate the tires aerodynamically extremely efficiently into the rim profile. In addition, the hookless design creates an almost seamless transition between tire and rim flanks. The omission of the hooks also makes the rim flanges more robust in the event of punctures and contributes to the significant weight savings compared to the previous versions. In combination with further optimizations in the structure of the carbon layers, the weight of the wheelset could be reduced to 1255 grams. This makes the 353 NSW wheels extremely agile and light-footed.
Total System Efficiency (TSE)
The 353 NSW wheels were developed under the TSE approach. The development goal was to find the best possible impeller design to overcome the speed barriers that exist under realistic driving conditions. In addition to wind resistance, gravity and rolling resistance, this also includes vibration losses in poor road conditions.
Zipp Cognition hubs
The Cognition V2 hub set, developed in Germany, impresses with its unique freewheel system. The system is similar to a toothed disk freewheel, but due to the special arrangement of the toothed disks (axial clutch) it only generates half as much frictional resistance when rolling as a conventional ratchet system. The second version of the hubs has an improved sealing system and the freewheel mechanism is even more responsive.
Sawtooth design
Introduced with the Zipp 858 NSW, the 353 also got the aerodynamically extremely efficient sawtooth profile that was modeled on the fin ends of the humpback whale and allows the rim height to vary between 43 and 48 millimeters. In combination with the newly designed hexagonal ABLC dimples (recesses on the outside of the rim), the design ensures very high crosswind stability, especially at larger angles of attack.
ImPress graphics
With the ImPress graphic technology, the Zipp lettering is printed directly onto the rim. This allows the recessed structures on the rims to unfold their full effect.
Zip Lifetime Warranty
Zipp gives you a lifetime guarantee on your Zipp wheel if used properly. The warranty also includes racing and damage caused by rider error, as long as the wheel has been used for its intended purpose. The guarantee only applies to the original purchaser and proof of purchase is mandatory!
NOTE: Due to the hookless profile, the Zipp 353 NSW wheels are only suitable with the use of ETRTO-compliant tubeless tires. However, the corresponding tubeless tires can be ridden with tube on the wheels without any problems. You can find an overview of all compatible tires for your Zipp hookless wheelhere .
