Description
ZIPP rear wheel 27.5" 101 XPLR Carbon Clincher | Tubeless | Center Lock | 12x142 mm thru axle | Shimano Road freewheel body | Kwiqsand
With the 101 XPLR, the wheel specialists at Zipp are launching the first wheelset optimized for the gravel segment. In contrast to their high-profile road rims, the rims of the 101 XPLR use the in-house MOTO technology that has been tried and tested in the mountain bike sector. The flat, single-walled carbon rims have extremely high vibration damping and allow the rim to avoid hard impacts and adapt to the ground. This significantly increases resistance to hard punctures and ensures better traction and cornering grip. The large inner width of 27 millimeters gives wide tubeless tires even more volume and keeps them securely on the rim, even at very low air pressures. The properties of the MOTO rims not only allow you to save energy on gravel routes, the softer rolling behavior also means that you tire less quickly on long bikepacking trips. With the optionally available TireWiz that matches the rims, you always have an overview of your current tire pressure.
Total System Efficiency (TSE)
The 101 XPLR wheels were developed under the TSE approach. The development goal was to find the best possible impeller design to overcome the speed barriers that exist under realistic driving conditions. In addition to wind resistance, gravity and rolling resistance, this also includes vibration losses in poor road conditions.
Zipp ZR1 hubs
The Zipp ZR1 hubs were developed in two years of development work in Germany. Its most outstanding feature is the extremely finely toothed freewheel body design of the rear wheel hub with 66 locking points per wheel revolution, which allows the ZR1 to react to acceleration without any delay. The fine toothing is realized via a system of 6 pawls, of which 3 pawls engage offset. The design of the seals is based on the high-end Cognition hubs and provides more protection and durability with a larger dust cap behind the freewheel body and better seals.
NOTE: Due to the hookless profile, the Zipp 101 XPLR wheels are only suitable with the use of ETRTO-compliant tubeless tires. However, the corresponding tubeless tires can be ridden with a tube on the wheels without any problems.
