With this wheelset, racers can also really let it rip. The light and stable NONPLUS Components hubs as well as the excellently crafted Duke rims forgive the occasional driving mistake. The balanced selection of components guarantees you high reliability and a long service life.
Hubs
The small blacksmith shop from Murr in Baden-Württemberg has been producing light yet stable bicycle hubs since 2018. New concepts are constantly being developed and patents are registered so that new standards can be set in the future.
A hub body made of high-quality, hard anodized aluminum revolves around the elaborately sealed industrial deep groove ball bearings. This has a special ventilation system that prevents negative pressure from occurring due to temperature fluctuations in the hub. As a result, no water is sucked through the ball bearings, which ensures a significantly longer service life and noticeably smooth running of the bearings.
Thanks to high-precision manufacturing and perfect quality control, the second generation hubs do not require the bearing play adjuster previously used. This means you always have a perfectly adjusted hub with a smooth, easy run.
The unique freewheel mechanism with bevel teeth of the NONPLUS hubs has approx. 400% more contact surface than conventional systems and enables maximum power transmission with minimal wear. The forces are transmitted over an area instead of at specific points. The 45 defined rest points immediately convert your start into propulsion without much empty space.
rims
Duke has managed to improve the rim compared to the SLS3 version. In doing so, they have once again pushed the seemingly technically possible limits. A 30 mm wide rim with a weight of only 371g is a direct challenge to the competition.
How did the French accomplish this? They took a closer look at the individual elements of the rim and looked for optimization options. In particular, a new resin was used. This not only made it possible to slim down, but also increased impact resistance at the same time. Similar to the SLS3 production process, reworking or painting is not necessary after production.
The rim flange is hookless and reinforced. This prevents damage in the event of possible punctures. In addition, the anti-burp technology prevents the tire from slipping or jumping off the rim and thus possible loss of air.
The rim has an asymmetrical rim profile, which allows for a more uniform angle of attack for the spokes. This optimization of the spoke angle brings with it a number of advantages. The spoke tension on both sides can be better adjusted, which improves the durability of the spokes and the entire wheel. The normally directional lateral stiffness is also adjusted so that the wheel becomes stiffer.
With the “6Ters” concept, Duke takes individual paths. The cross section of the rims is different on the front and rear wheels. At the front, the larger internal width allows for more grip and rigidity, while at the rear, particular attention was paid to impact resistance and comfort.
Wheel construction at R2-Bike
Our wheels are assembled entirely by hand by our wheel builders. During the entire construction, it is important to ensure that not only the concentricity is correct, but also that the spoke tension is as even as possible. This special care allows us to offer a lifetime guarantee against broken spokes, as long as they are not caused by violence.
