The Industry Nine Hydra Classic hubs are a real gem on every bike. Developed and produced in Asheville / North Carolina, they benevolently set themselves apart from the competition with many small technical refinements. With their externally sealed bearing and stable axle , they are well protected against environmental influences and also well prepared for downhill use. Beveled spoke flanges help to reduce the forces on the sensitive spoke heads and thus prevent spoke breakage.
However, the pawl freewheel on the rear wheel hub is revolutionary. It consists of a drive ring with 115 teeth and 6 staggered pawls. These are designed in such a way that as soon as one of them has a frictional connection, the others can also absorb torque shortly afterwards. This means that a single handle only has the power to carry the load on its own for a very short time. The big plus of this system is an extremely short idle travel of 0.52°, which brings clear advantages in technical passages or when accelerating hard. In addition, the fine grid leads to a unique background noise on the impeller.
The maintenance effort is also relatively low. You can disassemble and clean the hub without tools.
rims
The aluminum rims from the Allgäu impress with their low weight and yet high rigidity. Due to the high-strength aluminum alloy, they are a perfect basis for high-quality wheel sets. The flared rim flanks make these rims more resistant to dents and external forces and give the tire a rounder shape and thus more cornering grip. The rim profile with the straight nipple contact surface is specially designed for the use of specially developed washers (MG Washer) and ensures very high "Spoke Pull Out" values in this area. The rim flanges, on the other hand, are much more massive and therefore more robust than rims in the same weight class.
Impeller construction at R2-Bike
Our wheels are assembled entirely by hand by our wheel builders. During the entire construction, it is important that not only the concentricity is right, but also that the spoke tension is as even as possible. The special care allows us to give a lifetime guarantee against broken spokes, as long as this is not caused by violence!
