With the electronic RED eTap AXS, the next revolution in shifting groupsets from SRAM is coming to the road. Not only does it offer a wider gear range, but also smaller gear steps compared to the previous version. What at first sounds absurd is made possible by the new X-range gear ratio variants of the RED DUB crank in combination with the RED 12-speed cassette. Thanks to the 10-speed cassette sprocket, smaller chainrings are sufficient to achieve the same maximum gear range as with an 11-speed sprocket. With a wide range of gear ratios and as a 1x and 2x version, the eTap AXS is just as versatile as the intended use of bikes with drop bars is today: from gravel bikes to time trial machines, the right RED eTap groupset can be put together. The new AXS technology (pronounced "access") offers you the option of adapting the shifting to your personal preferences, evaluating your shifting behavior or carrying out firmware updates via the smartphone app. In addition to the freely selectable assignment of all shift buttons, the shifters can also be operated in semi-automatic mode, in which the rear derailleur and front derailleur synchronize independently and you only have to choose between a lighter and heavier gear.
Shift brake lever
With only one shift lever per handlebar side and their simple shifting logic, shifting with the eTap shifters is virtually impossible.The shifting process is precise, fast and easy. The redesigned ErgoBlade carbon levers are comfortable to hold and the wide eTap shifters are impossible to miss, even when wearing winter gloves.They also provide haptic and acoustic feedback to the rider when shifting. 2 Blip shift buttons can be connected to each shift lever for additional shifting options.
HydroHC Hydraulic-Road-Disc (HRD) brakes
By eliminating the need for the shift mechanism in the brake lever, the master piston could be perfectly integrated into the shift/brake lever. As a result, the hoods are smaller, blend more harmoniously into the overall appearance of the bike and fit even better in the hand.The contact point adjustment also ensures better ergonomics. The pressure point of the lever can be precisely adjusted via a hexagonal screw without affecting the distance between the brake pads. The lever width when the brake is not actuated can also be adjusted to the size of the hand using a hexagonal screw. For improved braking performance, SRAM is relying on a redesigned 2-piece brake caliper in model year 2020.
Centerline XR brake rotors | Center Lock
New, optimized design with large friction surface for more braking power and less brake fade.The newly designed aluminum spider ensures better heat dissipation and has better aerodynamic properties.The 7-point mounting of the friction ring has reduced the vibrations of the disc, which also reduces noise when braking.
The rounded edges on the top of the disc minimize the risk of injury and comply with the guidelines of the UCI cycling world federation.As a further advantage, they make it easier to install the wheel, as the rounded top prevents jamming in the brake calliper.
Rear derailleur
The eTap AXS rear derailleur features a revised motor and improved data transmission for even faster shifting.The speed-dependent orbit fluid vibration damping ensures safe chain guidance, even in off-road use. Enlarged derailleur pulleys and ceramic bearings make the drivetrain even more efficient compared to the previous version. Equipped with an additional ANT+ transmitter, the rear derailleur can communicate with bike computers and information on the battery charge status and the current gear can be displayed.
Front derailleur
The new SRAM RED eTap front derailleur has been developed for the 2x X-range chainring gradations of the eTap AXS groupset. Equipped with the proven SRAM Yaw technology, it is no longer necessary to trim the front derailleur. The power when shifting is automatically regulated over the entire shifting range. The front derailleur offers extra tire clearance for use on cyclocross and gravel bikes.
Charger/batteries
The integrated batteries on the rear derailleur and front derailleur have a range of over 1000 kilometers. The charge status can be read at any time via LED lights. The batteries of the rear derailleur and front derailleur are identical and can therefore be replaced on the move. The batteries are recharged within an hour using the charger supplied.
