The Shimano XTR pedals have always been known for their very good durability and function in the racing scene. Compared to its predecessor, the contact area of the 9100 pedal has been increased by a wider, flattened pedal body. That's why the M9100 pedals offer improved power transmission and more control in technically demanding passages. The shape of the pedals has been optimized for adverse weather conditions. Thanks to the improved self-cleaning achieved with this, clicking in and out does not cause any problems, even on muddy track conditions.
However, perfect function was always weighed a few grams too much. Thanks to the Meti titanium axles, this is now a thing of the past. The optimized axle are manufactured by Meti in Italy from high-strength grade 5 titanium on modern CNC machines.
While the outer bearing is taken over by two maintenance-free ceramic hybrid deep groove ball bearings, the original plain bearing is still used on the inside. In addition to the weight saved, this construction also results in a silky smooth run. According to the manufacturer, the axle are approved for a driver's weight including clothing, backpack, etc. up to 120 kg. The result of the diet is quite impressive. The pedals have lost just over 50g in weight and now only weigh 257g per pair. And that without having to sacrifice a touch of their perfect ones. This is what sensible tuning should look like.
If you already own a pair of XTR PD-M9100 pedals, you have the option of buying a pair of axle including ceramic hybrid bearings and a suitable spacer sleeve here. Installation is quite easy for the ambitious hobbyist. When converting used pedals, we strongly recommend using a new Shimano XTR locking sleeve. A "fresh" plain bearing is installed in the sleeve. In this way you prevent higher wear values from occurring. You can find the article in our shop. We recommend replacing the original Shimano plain bearings with the bronze plain bearings supplied by Meti - because these are characterized by less wear than the original Shimano plain bearings.
Note: The original plain bearings of the Shimano XTR locking sleeve can be pressed out easily, you need a little more force when pressing in the Meti plain bearing. Please note that the Meti plain bearings require a break-in period of 50 - 100 km.
